So, I wear (gel) nail polish, have every day for the last few years. I like the shine of gel polish and the fact that it dosnt chip for my work (I do hair, so my hands are constantly wet) anyhow.
Ive had red nails and toes the last 5 years now. How do you pick a diffrent color? Whats another “every day” shade?

I didn’t know red was an every day shade! Maybe a nice muted pink or beige? That’s more every day to me..

I change my nail polish color too often to say that I have an every day shade but I most often wear a light pink/nude color. I think it goes with everything and I don’t get tired of it. I also often wear a light purpley/gray. It sounds funny but is really subtle and gives some color without being overwhelming.

Djacks88: I wear all different colours myself now. I used to be a red through and through gal, until I discovered rockstar glitter nails! But if glitter isn’t the thing for you, then pastels are very “in” at the moment and there are some lovely peachy pinky shades out there. There are also some lovely nude shades which you can’t go wrong with. In the summer I like wearing bright corals and all shades of blue and turquoise. (I actually have a red half moon manicure on at the mo… just to have a change from the crazy colours I usually have!!)

I have a soft spot for bright and dark greens. OPI’s Amazon…Amazoff is one of my favorite shades, but it’s not gel. Most people don’t think of green as an everyday color but I say why not? CND Shellac does a good one. It’s called Serene Green.

My absolute favorite go-with-everythings are OPI Tickle My France-y and OPI Bubble Bath. They’re both kinda neutral and make my ring pop too. This one is Tickle My France-y:

I don’t have any restrictions about the type of nail polish I can wear at work, my current favourite “everyday” look is black with a glitter or flakey topcoat for colour. When I do colour I like blues (both dark navy and brighter blues), purples, and greens. At a salon if I were to get gel polish I would just pick whatever I gravitated more towards that day.

Djacks88: I have had gel for 2 years! I love it!! I am not a fan of wacky colors like bright blue, green, hot pink, etc. I do tend to pick colors that match many things and can be considered “everyday” colors IMO. I switch my color every single time, usually they range from different shades of dark plum, super dark red, deep browns…right now, they’re a dark pink. During the summer I change between light pinks/nudes/tans with the occasional orange or brighter pinks.

In the summer I loooove to wear OPI’s coral “Are We There Yet?” It is currently blizzarding out and I think I might pain my nails in this color just to stick it to Old Man Winter.

Djacks88: I don’t have an “every day” shade as I’m easily bored with whatever’s on my nails at the time so I change colors at every manicure but I do like soft pinks and dramatic dark purples. I’m currently wearing Essie-Lady Like (which I love), and my go-to dark purple is OPI-Eiffel for This Color. Corals are really pretty for spring, I love Essie- Cute as a Button and Tarte Deco!
The best advice I’ve heard for color selection is to know your skin’s undertones and pick colors that pair well with it…So, it’s less about the actual color (ie- there’s a “red” for everyone; some reds have more blue and some have more orange) so much as it’s about the undertones in the color and how they match with the undertones in your skin. If you have a warmer skin tone don’t go with cooler tones and vice versa.

Djacks88: Since I get them done every 3 weeks, I go with the season or holiday which sometimes sucks b/c currently my nails are GREEN with a gold sparkle party nail for St. Pat’s (but I’m Irish, so it’s OK!!). Next time I go, I’ll probably get a nice spring color, then after that light purple for Easter…
Wow, I never realized how much thought I put in my nail polish til now!!!!
