(1999 called, they want their CDs back…)
No, but seriously. We have a large bookshelf in our living room, and the entire top shelf is filled with DH’s CD cases. (To me, it just looks…trashy. Like someone’s college dorm room. I think our living room would look a lot nicer if we could clean off that top shelf and put some classier knick-knacks or something up there.) But I don’t know what to suggest to DH of where else to put them! He actually still does go through them and pull out some to listen to occasionally, so it has to be accessible, but what type of furniture do you use to keep them out of sight but within reach? (I dont know exactly how many we have, but when they’re all lined up, it’s probably about 3 feet!)
Some kind of cabinet with doors? What do you do?

Go to The Container Store and get some cute baskets to put them in that will fit on the shelf. That way they’ll still be accesible, but not icky!

I would buy an external hard drive and copy them all to that. Then play the music from that. External hard drives are not the expensive.
Then he can save the case covers and put them in a photo album so he can still browse through the collection.

@gingerkitten: I think I like that idea!
@ThreeMeers: oh I would love to do that… I can’t help but wonder, though, if DH actually has this attachment to the physical cds themselves, you know, like how many people actually love physical books?
anyone else, other ideas?

@red_rose: then get rid of the case and put the CDis in a photo/CD album with the covers. Then you can keep them all in a couple albums. way less space. But ou never know until you ask him.
Either way, copying them to a hard drive is a smart idea. If the CD scratches, you have a backup.

I bought some of those DJ books, they use to carry alot of their music in, and I kept the cd’s and “jackets” and store them in there. I junked the jewel cases. DH has his on an external drive we just haven’t gotten around to adding my music to it. The DJ books you could shove anywhere, my SIL keeps my brother’s in under their bed in a bin.
I keep the DJ books in an old china closet, in the bottom part with the door part. We painted that china closet blue and ran lights thru it, it’s in our office and houses the video games, and all the Rock Band crapola that is DH’s. Out of the way!

Can’t you just rip them all to your computer and wire the computer into the sound system? So much less clutter and so much better, since you can make playlists, etc. I haven’t owned a physical CD in over 10 years!
