How early before ceremony will you put on dress?

I am getting married at a local university, and they have a big, beautiful bride room. Many brides put their dresses on there right before the ceremony according to the wedding coordinator on site. I thought this sounded like a great idea because I won't have my dress on for 1.5-2 hours before the ceremony. We have to time my arrival at the chapel well because I don't want to arrive at the same time as guests. I figured I would be comfortable longer and wouldn't get my dress wrinkled in the limo and waiting around for the ceremony to start.

My mom is a little miffed (1) because she thinks we'll miss out on opportunities to take a bunch of "family" pictures at her house before we all go together, and (2) we are having a limo pick us up at the house, and it seems kind of pointless (reception venue is only about 1 mile away from church) if I don't even have my dress on.

How early before the ceremony are you getting dressed? Are you arriving at the church early? Does anyone have any advice for me? Thanks so much.

i'm putting my dress on around 2:30 or 3:00, and my ceremony isn't til 6:30.  we're getting ready at the venue though, and my groom and i are doing photos before the ceremony.  do what makes you feel best... if you want the photos at your mom's house then go for it, otherwise i vote for comfort!

We got dressed at our venue (synagogue).  First off, we had the hair and make-up person come there, so we were able to get our hair and make-up done before putting the dresses on (less chance of spilling something on the dresses).  Second, it meant we were not going outside and potentially getting the dresses dirty before the ceremony.

i put mine on a while before b/c we had pictures before and a ketubah signing ceremony. but i was staying at the venue so it wasn't a big deal to get ready there and put it on. my sil had to go to different places, the hotel and venue were in different locations so she waited to put it on when she got there so she wouldn't do anything to it, and got her hair and makeup done at the hotel. your mom will get lots of family pictures after the ceremony and the limo is still special even if you're not in a wedding dress.

I am putting my dress on about 1.5 hours before the ceremony, because we are doing pictures before the ceremony. We will be getting ready in a local hotel and when we get to the pretty bride room at my venue I will then put my dress on. I want to get some of those pictures of my dress hanging in the pretty room.

Well my wedding is quite a while off- but my sister got married at 2:00 and was in the dress by 12:15-12:30 (if  I remember correctly) for pictures with the bridal party. :)

My ceremony starts at 2:30, make up and hair will start at 10:30 so I'm thinking I will be in my dress around 12:30-1:00 so we can do pictures beforehand with the bridal party.

If your dress is easy to put on and take off (mine is zippered so it's not like doing 100 buttons up the back or lacing a corset or anything) then you can always throw it on for pictures at your mom's and take it off after that to "breathe" for the couple hours before the actual ceremony.  I want to wait as long as possible before putting my dress on.  Ideally I'd pack the thing up and put it on after I got to the church like 20 minutes before the ceremony! But that's not going to happen...

I am so freaked out about this.  I don't want to be in it any longer than I have to be (aka waiting around in it) but I also don't want to be running late and rip something.  (I am 10 days away, so I am just worrying about everything at this point!)  I am getting picked up in a limo, just me and the photographer at this point, at 6:45, so I think I will start getting into my dress at 6pm.  Ceremony is at 7.
