We registered like a month after we got engaged incase people wanted to get us anything for our engagement parties.  (we were advised to do so by a friend’s mother).

I would say about 6-8 before the wedding. Things could be become discontinued if you register too early.

I just registered a week ago and my wedding is in July. I don’t think there is a “wrong” time to register… but if you do it too early it’s possible (especially at Target) for the items to no longer be available.

I registered, 1 month ago, for my mid April bridal shower. I didn’t register for my wedding.

I say, if you want to do it now just DO IT! There is no harm in it as long as you are OK with checking back in with it to take off discontinued stuff. You could set up an initial one now and then go back when you have around 6 or 8 months to go to update it.

    I totally agree with @bikinihoneymoon.

We registered over a year in advance because I just couldn’t wait, but it ended up being totally pointless. things were discontinued, we changed our minds, bought some stuff on our own, or received stuff as gifts.

I will say, that it made gift-giving easier for relatives. my grandmother was able to snatch up our pots and pans the day I registered so she had more to choose from (and had a coupon! ;P), and we scored our waffle maker for Christmas (so. excited.). But my shower is next weekend, and things are just starting to go off it.

I’d say go ahead and make it, but don’t worry if you change things around or even change your mind on the store you registered at! have fun 🙂

Not sure, I have the same question! My mother is bugging me to register but we are more than a year out, and I feel like it is too early!

My wedding is September 2012, and I am already registered. We are having an engagement party, and I was advised that registering was the best way to end up with things you actually need.

Registering scares me, I know it’s necessary but I still feel like it’s kind of obnoxious.
