No, not early at all! I bought mine a year before our wedding. It actually took 6 months to order and everything so it worked out perfectly.
My wedding is October 29, 2011 and I bought my dress already. I kept looking, but kept coming back to one fave and finally I tried it on for like, the eighth time, and when I put it on and looked at myself in the mirror I said "This is stupid." Everyone thought I was talking about the dress, but I mean that trying to top the dress I had on was stupid, because the dress was so obviously perfect!
But I avoid pics of other wedding dresses anyways, in case I get a case of dress envy!
not too early but don't do alternation just yet in case your weight fluctuates.
For me that would be WAY to early but I am the type to change my mind 10000 times. I started dress shopping 7 months till the wedding and have ordered/ bought/ exchanged 4 dresses so far!
I bought my dress about a year early...a year and a month exactly. It worked out perfectly :)
I ordered my dress in March 2009 and I'm getting married this November. However, my dress isn't in yet (hopefully in the next few weeks). So I don't think its ever too early to start looking.
I got mine a year and a half prior to our wedding.
The only time I think it is to early to purchase a wedding gown is if you aren't engaged yet. When you find "the one", you need to scoop it up because it might not be available when you think you are supposed to purchase it.

Hello everyone!
I went dress shopping today and fell in love with a dress. I got the "feeling" and knew it was the one. Now I'm excited and want to put the order in but I want to make sure I'm not rushing anything. How early is too early to buy a dress? My wedding is more then a year away (October 8, 2011). Am I crazy?
By the way, I'll be posting pictures of me in the dress once my sister sends me the pictures from her camera.
