I'm wondering how far in advance I should send STD's? We're getting married on a small island where lodging books up quickly, so I want to give our guests plenty of notice. Our wedding is next September and my thought was to either get them out in October or early November before the Holidays start, or wait until mid-January sometime after the Holiday madness has calmed down. I'm leaning more toward October, but is that too early??? Thanks for your help!!

I agree.  I'm planning a wedding in Germany in July of next year. I'm planning on sending the save-the-dates, ASAP. People need to save up to be able to go so the more notice the better.

Especially a DW where the lodging books up quickly - I would want to get the word out as soon as I could.  9-12 months is a good rule of thumb for that scenario.

I would be careful of sending them out too early. (On the off-chance that some people may misplace the STD or—eeek!—throw it away.) I would making them magnetic. Then they can slap them on the fridge, and it won't end up in a pile of papers somewhere.

You're good with 9-12. I've received an STD for greece 12 months ahead in the past. Plus, you should send it before the holidays. After the holidays, some people will be thinking that they've been spending a lot of money recently...

9-12 months is great for a destination wedding. You're right on schedule!

To my understanding, they're sent out 10-12 months before the wedding so that guests have time to request vacation time and make travel arrangements. A magnet they stick on their fridge is your best bet.

I sent mine out about 11 months before my wedding, which was an out-of-town wedding for about 85% of our guests, the bulk of which were coming up from Miami (to upstate NY) or driving up from NYC (about 2.5 hours)...I am glad I did it but I definitely could have waited a little longer, I'm worried people thought I was a little obnxiously over-eager but they were so cute and I just wanted to send 'em out!! But honestly, for a true DW, anything under a year is TOTALLY fine!
