We planned a year in advance, then changed direction completely. We found a groupon deal from a reputable company and we’re going to Tokyo in May!

We just booked our trip to Bora Bora (about 3 days ago) via an amazing deal on Costco. We are going in Sept 2015 for 10 days

I highly reccomend Costco for vacation packages. The great thing is that when you book, only flights are due plus $100 deposit pp for the hotel. The rest is due 45 days prior to departure.

plan or book?  we booked ours about 4 months in advance but we talked about our plan for a few months prior to that.

we went to italy for 2 weeks.

a honeymoon is really no different than a vacation.  so if you want to wait for last minute deals, wait.  for me, i like peace of mind knowing things are booked ahead of time so i book in advance.

for example, i am going to texas for thanksgiving.  i kept an eye on flight prices and booked far enough in advance to be guarenteed but still got a really good deal.

We planned the entire engagement – just thinking of places to go. We booked ours the Monday after our wedding (October 20), and are going on it February 8. We waited because we wanted to use some of our wedding money towards the cost, although could have booked earlier considering we can make payments towards the trip anytime.

But, it all worked on – and we really only lost some money on flights, as they were cheaper the day we met with the AAA agent, and increased a little less than $200 2 days later when we booked.

I booked in January of this year, leaving Saturday for Aruba!!

It was slightly different for us because my dad was giving us a week from his timeshare that he banked from 2 years ago, so I had to look for trades and it limited us significantly on when and where we could go. When I saw a week over Thanksgiving in the Caribbean, I jumped on it. Right after that I booked flights, since they were getting more and more expensive the longer I waited it seemed.

adomke:  well, I planned mine about 6 months before because we are in the US and I have found that when planning a Euro trip I get better deals when I book in advance

We booked probably 1-2 months beforehand, but that was mostly because we changed locations. It didn’t make a difference in terms of discount because we went in June and that’s high season regardless.

We got engaged January 1st, booked our venue and set a date by January 7th and by the 10th we had already booked our honeymoon (oh the priorities…….). We got married October 5th so 10 months exactly.

We’re going to Bora Bora in Feb 2016. The one resort I was looking at only has 5 rooms left for that week, which seems crazy to me, since it’s 15 months out. But all the other sites I’ve looked at don’t go past Nov 2015, so it looks like I’ll be waiting a little while. It will still be about a year out though.

adomke:  We’re booking about a month before to get a deal. 🙂

I’ve been looking at places for months and we have a rough idea of what we’re doing, but we’re going to book last minute.

We’re not going to chance waiting for any deals. We are working with a travel agent currently to book our honeymoon/elopement in late may/early June of next year. We want a balcony room or better on an Alaskan cruise. I guess we just like having things planned out and have set in stone plans instead of chancing it.. We will hopefully get our cruise booked officially by the end of the week.

If you are flexible, I say wait you can find some really good deals.. Groupon always has good deals, funjet has good deals.  I think it all depends on you… I like a bargain so it is rare I ever book a trip that far in advance.  Hubby and I are going to the Dominica Republic the first week i December and I Just booked it last week.

adomke:  FI suggested postponing the honeymoon so I’ll have something to plan after the wedding lol we’ll be going to a local spa resort for a few days, but w haven’t decided on a destination yet.

The best deals one month before departure exist only if they need to sell off seats/rooms. Usually, 6 months before for international trips and 3-4 months for domestic travel. It also depends on time of year and whether there are any local events happening (ie fashion week in NYC, it’ll be expensive even if you stay at a motel 6)

We booked our tickets to London just a few weeks after getting engaged. We’re only having a 5 month engagement, so it made sense to get a move on 🙂
