I’m running out of time to order a wedding dress. I have a little over 7 months before my wedding and don’t have a dress yet.
I have an appointment at a new salon this weekend. I came across another salon that is almost an hour away from me but is huge and comes highly recommended. However, I just went onto their website and they said about how bridal gown take 4-6 months to make and they recommend ordering them 10-12 months ahead of time! Seriously? I feel like I’m so behind on this whole thing and just want to give up. Now I don’t know whether to even make an appointment here even though I know you can rush gowns if it really comes down to it.

I’d give it six months. The bridal salon is saying longer because they want to make sure there is extra time for alterations and in case anything goes wrong – but I’ve never heard of a dress taking 10 months to come in, that just seems ridiculous. I’d try to make a decision soon, but you’re certainly not late or anything, so don’t stress about it!

It really only takes 2-3 months and a month for alterations. Some bridal boutiques like to pressure you into buying one right away and then they’ll try to charge you a ‘rush’ fee of $300 when they actually get the dress way before that. It’s all BS.
You still have 4-6 weeks to look. But of course I wouldn’t wait any long than that.

I had aboslutely no idea before I started trying on dresses. 10-12 months is crazy though! I wouldn’t want it anyway… I’m fairly impatient and there is no way I could wait that long – regardless of when my wedding was. I went to wedding boutiques in Australia 6 months before my wedding and that seemed to be the cut off for most places. HOWEVER…. there are some amazing places that are off the rack.. and even places like shopbop.com… I found my dress in a boutique and then found it online as an ex-sample but had never been tried on. I ordered it last week and will receive it in 3… SO excited!

I agreed with the early three posts. It’s redicious to buy a dress 10months beforehand. I believe the truth is the earlier you buy the wedding dress, the better it’ll be, as just in case the dress need to be altered, as well as anything goes wrong, then you can have time to make it right. I think you’re supposed to have enough time to buy your wedding dress,as you’re having 7month left. Just start from now.

I agree with the other ladies… I ordered mine at the very end of august and it should come in sometime before or around Christmas… Unless they have a little woman in the back handsewing your dress I don’t see how it would take this long! Have you called the store and talked to them directly? I would start looking right away though!

I agree! You still have time but don’t put it off any longer! Good luck 🙂

Hi! I am in Boston too. I bought my gown from Madeleine’s Daughter in late April and it just arrived last week. They had told me December but I am sure that was just to give themselves a little cushion. I had a great experience there and recommend them. If you are nervous about timing you could try Vows in Watertown which sells all of the gowns off the rack but I do think you still have time to get the dress in before July from a regular salon.

Have you checked out Vows in Watertown? They sell some new and some samples…right off the rack.
Actually, they include cleaning and repairs if you buy a sample, so you might buy and then have to pick up a week later. I’ve seen Amsale, Carolina Herrera, Alvina Valenta, Romona Keveza, Kenneth Pool…name a designer, they probably have had it there.
It’s a gem of a place! You need an appointment on certain days, but I think they are open to all on Saturdays (it can be busy, I’ve heard).
I was very, very pleased with my experience there!
