How far along did you set up the nursery?

This weekend we’ll be moving our guest bed up to IL’s cabin in the mountains to make room for baby stuff. I’d like to start cleaning out the closet too, so we can start painting and brainstorming for decor with a blank slate. Oh, and I’m 13 weeks! I think with the holidays coming, it’s probably the best time for us to get started before all the crazy hits!

@hippomama:  I’m 26 weeks, almost 7 months and we just painted the nursery this past weekend.

We Should have the nursery finished by novemeber… currently we dont have a single thing set up no crib nada, baby due in december. But i know people who have their nurserys set up at like month 3 so i guess it depends on the couple. Also for us the room’s been empty this whole time so it wasnt a matter of having to move things out of that room to make way for baby.

I’m due October 3 and we didn’t set it up until after labor day weekend in September. DH is very superstitious, and didn’t like the idea of walking past a completed nursery before we had a healthy baby to bring home. I’m a planner and needed to check things off my “to-do” list before I went insane. So we compromised on 1 month before my due date.

Now everything is ready to go, just need baby to make an appearance!

I’m with you, OP, in that we don’t have an empty room screaming “nursery” and waiting to be used. Honestly, we’ll probably wait til as late as possible. Baby will probably sleep in our room at the beginning, so we might just do something like move a changing table and dresser into the guest room or office, and not even have a dedicated nursery for awhile, maybe not until we (hopefully) buy a new house a few months after baby is born. It’s not the end of the world if you can’t do it early, and don’t let the situation of others make you worry that youre not on top of it! 🙂

We will be turning the guest bedroom into a nursery, but can’t do that until after Thanksgiving because my in-laws will be visiting and the idea of them staying in a hotel seems insulting to them (they were confused when I told them after the baby is born, they won’t be able to stay in our home because there will be no space but there will be a baby crying at all hours of the night). So, we will have the furniture and decor picked out, but won’t actually work on replacing the flooring and setting up the nursery until I’m 8 months.

I’m 30 weeks right now, and we had planned to start the nursery around 26 weeks… but then we learned we have to move. So, I have everything picked out, but the nursery won’t be set up until I’m 35 weeks.

we cleaned out the guest room at about 20w, and painted around 21w.  We ordered the furniture early because of a great sale, but it didn’t get setup until around 22w, and I’m currently 25w.  DH didn’t want to setup the crib as early as we did because he thought it was bad luck, but we needed to get it out of the garage.  Now he walks in there all the time asking when she’s going to be here!

I’m actually having 2 baby showers, and the shower with my family will be at my house on Nov 10.  I told DH that I want the room mostly done by then since everyone will be here and want to see it anyways, so that’s my goal.  I’m not due until Jan 8, so this will give me roughly 2 months for any last minute planning and to organize everything.

We have a split foyer with 3 bedrooms up and 1 down.  The baby’s room is technically an office but we moved in just over a year ago with full intentions of it being a baby’s room soon.  With that said, it’s painted already with a baby in mind.  We will be moving the desk downstairs to the guest room and it is currently holding everything for our bathroom remodel.  Once that is all done we can start getting the room together.

We are using a long dresser we already have for the change table and baby’s dresser and my BIL has a crib for us so we just need a chair/glider for the room.  I’m only 12 weeks so we have plenty of time.

I’m more concernred about trying to get my sewing projects started and out of the way.  First I need to find the fabric.  So hard!

@hippomama:  with my first, I didn’t get stuff set up until last minute, I’m talking..painting at 38 weeks. This time I’m ten weeks and already getting stuff together and moving things around. I think it’s 100x better to do it early. God forbid you go into labor 6 weeks early an the room isn’t ready…that’s just more unneeded stress.

@hippomama:  Thanks… nope, we’re moving around the corner, in the same neighborhood. The nursery will be all setup once we move in, since we have everything already. Well, the only thing we’re missing is the comfy chair, but we’ll find something. My shower is also October 20, so we’ll have a really good idea of what is left to buy.

@hippomama:  I don’t think that’s too early at all.  After we picked which room we were using for the nursery my husband moved the bookshelves that week.  We painted the nursery around the same time since I could help at that point.  With a mask of course.  I was probably around 13 weeks maybe even early.  I’m 19 weeks and we have the furniture already built.  But we did that because we have cats and we want them to get used to the room and train them to not get in the crib.  I have to agree with the others and say it’ll probably be better to start it before the holidays.
