To all the pregnant bee’s out there: How far along were you when you began to notice a change in your weight? I am 6 weeks along now and I am just wondering if I will notice a weight gain before week 12/13 (which will put me right around the holidays.)
When did people start noticing that you were pregnant? I’m just wondering how long I can hide it from my boss.

@kelly105: Hi there, I think I am about 8 weeks now. To be honest I was getting very bloated around the time when I got my BFP. Now my jeans are pretty snug and I have a much bigger belly than usual. Basically I know its not the baby as such but I have really suffered from bloating, even though I have been rather sick. I think it depends on person to person. My family and Darling Husband have noticed because I have gone up at least a cup size and am carrying bloat around my gut. However there are people that really dont get the bloat, so it can be very different woman to woman.
Sorry if this was no help!

It varies so much from person to person.
I actually gained the most weight so far between weeks 4 and 8 (4 lbs in those four weeks). In the nearly 10 weeks since then, I have gained another 4.5 lbs and I am now 17w6d. I honestly think that early weight gain had more to do with eating a lot of refined carbs to stave on m/s than anything else!

I’ve been gaining weight since the BFP, however I haven’t had any morning sickness. Nothing crazy out of control, but last week at 13 weeks my belly started to stick out and I can no longer wear my normal pants.

I didn’t put on pounds at first, but I did notice a softening around the middle. I was not as flat and hard-stomached as before. I had bouts of queasiness but never actually threw up. By 11 weeks I was up about 4 pounds. I was up maybe 9ish by 16 weeks, and at 18 weeks I’m up about 11 pounds so far. I go weeks with no weight gain, then in one week I’ll gain a few pounds. It happens in spurts for me.

I lost weight in the 1st trimester – food in general was disgusting, so lost about 7lbs and I didn’t start gaining till 4 weeks ago (22 weeks) and have now been gaining about 1 lbs a week
But it all depends and everyone is very different – and showing is not the same as gaining weight – I didn’t gain anything but things started shifting and started to show around 15 weeks

@Sea_bass: Same here. I am so bloated and constipated. Some days it looks like I am 4 months pregnant… that is how bloated I get.
I don’t like to weight myself because I’m one of those girls who fixate on their weight. The number on the scale will dictate how I am going to feel about myself that day! 🙁 But I have my first DR’s appointment in 2 days and I am sure they will weight me. I guess I will step on the scale every morning after that to track my weight.

I am at 11 weeks, and the scale has remained largely unchanged since my BFP, I’m actually down a pound and a half. However, my belly has changed completely. It is incredibly uncomfortable to wear anything with any sort of pressure on my stomache. Normal pants are out. This started to get bad around week 8. I wake up looking just a little bloated, but by the end of the day, hello baby bump! Think its different for everyone.

@kelly105: Ask them if they can weigh you with your back to the numbers, and not tell you what you weigh. Explain that you tend to fixate on your weight and it will be healthier for you and the baby if you don’t know (unless there’s an issue… not gaining enough, gaining too much, etc).
Or, if it’s a sensitive topic, someone else on the Bee suggested saying that there is a bet or a pool about your total weight gain by the end of pregnancy, and your Darling Husband will be disqualified if even YOU know your weight.
Remember to be kind to yourself. You are GESTATING A HUMAN BEING!!!!!! You WILL gain weight- but you’re supposed to. You have to provide nutrition to your body and to your baby. Give yourself a break, and remember that the work your body is doing is miraculous and very demanding.

I haven’t really gained anything, and I’m at 10 weeks. Some days I step on the scale and I’m up a couple pounds, sometimes down. I try not to fixate on it. However, my belly looks COMPLETELY different! There is definitely a little bump there. I’m guessing its a combination of bloat and me having a short torso.
Be nice to yourself! You are growing a little baby in there 🙂 As long as you eat sensibly and take care of yourself you’ll be fine 🙂

@kelly105: I always turn my back on the scale at the doctor’s office. My nurse laughs but lets me do it. I’m 17 weeks and, according to my scale at home, I’ve only gained 2 pounds. I started to look noticeably pregnant at about 14 weeks. I think that’s when a guy at my office told me I wouldn’t be able to hide it anymore. Nice. LOL

It’ll really depend on your body, how you carry, and if you get morning sickness. Lots of people lose weight their first trimester because of being sick.
Personally, I’m 5’9 and I was 3 months at the time of our wedding. I hadn’t gained anything, but was definitely bloated. Not enough that other people could tell though.
I didn’t gain any real weight until 18 weeks or so.

7w6d here and I haven’t gained anything yet. I haven’t been sick (until today) and no big cravings/increased appetite yet either.

@kelly105: I’m almost 8 weeks pregnant and it’s definitely not anywhere close to noticable but I have already gained about 4 pounds, probably mostly in boobs and bloat :/ Though I’ve been so exhausted that I’ve been exercising much less than normal so that probably doesn’t help. Most of the sports I do I can’t do while pregnant anyway. It varies but you will probably be able to easily hide it until at least 13 or 14 weeks if not more.

I started showing a little before I actually gained weight but it was easy to hide until about 13ish weeks. And if I really tried hard I probably could have hid it even longer (15 weeks?) but after that it was VERY obvious. At 20 weeks strangers asked me when I was due.
