So the original date FI and I wanted was 9/8/12… Somehow my momzilla got me to change my location and my date to 8/4/12. I’ve gotten beyond that now, and movin on…
ANYWAY… Since the date is 8/4, I only have a reception site and nothing else, no church, no dress, no dj… nada. So how far behind am I? Just wonderin… lol

Part of that kind of depends on where you live – I’m not sure when the “slow” wedding season is in TX (if there is one?).
I think if I were you, I’d tackle the ceremony site and the photog next. Then the caterer and the dress. Then the entertainment (although also, part of this depends on what exactly you want for your wedding)
Do you have a plan/vision/type thingie?
ETA: Also, I would not stress. I’ve found the checklists on weddingwire (similar is on The Knot) very helpful. One of those sites might help you.

You’ve got almost a full year so I don’t think you’re too far behind, just be sure to keep plodding along.

Get the church, caterer, and photographer soon (I would say that to anyone no matter the date), but my date’s in June next year and I don’t have a whole lot more than that done, lol.

Luckily the catering is all wrapped up in the reception site… so I can check that off the list… lol. I’m going to try to find a DJ that does karaoke as well, if not I am a radio dj and I may ask a former colleague to mc before karaoke starts… (FI and I met in a karaoke bar) The only issue is I’m in Texas, but the wedding is in Indiana….It’s actually a plus since my mom has gone all mother of the bridezilla since I became engaged. I’m honestly happy Im 1400 miles away, but it sure makes arranging things difficult.

I planned a wedding 3000 miles away in 7 1/2 months. Your fine.
I would work on photog (research online) at the same times as starting to find a dress.
Talk to the photog before you book of course.
Are you planning any trips home before you go home for the wedding? I flew home for a week post engagement to do a lot and we got a ton done, tried on and ordered my dress, booked a florist etc. A lot of stuff can be done over the phone and email so dont sweat it.
I picked out BBM dresses online. I didnt have anyone try them on.

Im flying home for dress shopping Thanksgiving weekend (the only time off this radio girl can get ;)) I just wish it was all done, I just want to marry my man!

Well, Aug 4th is my date as well and I have EVERYthing done at this point, but i can honestly tell you i booked everything within 48 hrs. We were engaged in March and then one night in early june was just made a final decision on EVERYthing and sent out deposits-GALORE! If you know what you want you’ll have no problem. Our hold up was seeing if my father was going to contribute financially or not. That dictated our venue. My brother just had a 7 month engagement and spent less than 3 of hte months actually planning and it was FLAWLESS, However money was no object. If you’re on a mega-small budget like me, it’ll take a bit longer.
