The farthest I've gone was 45 minutes away to New jersey for chick-fil-a and it was worth every bite. How about you?
LOL DH and I take road trips to "visit family" but it's really only for the good southern food. 7 hours.
@4everdecember: Chik-Fil-A was a huge obsession with friends in college. Several of my friends used to camp out before a restaurant opened because you got 100 free meals if you were one of the first 100 customers.
I rarely eat fast food, unless I'm traveling, but then it's if I bump into it and I'm hungry. Maybe a half hour to Panera if that counts.
I don't know if we've ever traveled just for food, but any time we go to St. Louis we always try to stop by Popeye's chicken!
If I'm within a 10-12 mile radius from a King Taco- I'm there! Ten mile radius doesn't sound that far but in the general LA area, it can be 10 minutes or 1 hour.
If I had the time and money, I would drive the 5 to 6 hours to Texas for some whataburger on a regular basis. Whataburger is the greatest fast food hamburger that you will ever eat. The end.
It's not techinically fast food, but Redamack's in New Buffalo, MI is the farthest I have traveled for a cheeseburger. I decided at 5pm one day that I wanted it for dinner, packed two friends in the car and made the two hour drive to get there from Chicago.
Not far for fast food. Maybe 20 min tops. I did drive like 45 minutes for a burrito from On The Border once though. But I really had nothing else going on that day. lol
I've driven 30 minutes (in high school) and it was also for Chick-fil-A. Haha!
@4everdecember: and @Miss Sorbet: Chickfila is so worth the drive! Normally I wouldn't drive more than a couple miles for fast food but if I hadn't had chickfila in awhile I would definitely make the drive!
Chick-fil-a, Wendys, Mickey D's, BK, Long John Silvers, Pizzahut, Arbys, Taco Bell, Subway and Chipotle are ALL with-in a 5 minute drive from where I live. So, I'd say the furthest I'd ever drive for FF is....5 minutes. I could definitely see myself doing a roadtrip for chick-fil-a tho if I had to...that stuff is delicious! And for anyone who feels ambitious and doesn't want to do the drive, I have a really good copycat chicken sandwich recipe that tastes just like chick-fil-a's. Right down to the pickles.
DH and I once drove 45 minutes to go to Sonic. Because holy crap I wanted a cherry limeade in the worst sort of way.
I've never been to a Chick-fil-a, but it sounds like they have a powerful draw! LOL.
Our closest fast food growing up was 25 minutes away, but sometimes you just needed a Taco John's or A&W fix. I think the furthest drive was about an hour long trip to White Castle, but that was only because I was visiting a good friend in the Chicago area and he insisted I tried a slider. *shudder*
eta- this thread is making me seriously consider hopping in the car to get some FF. LOL.
I traveled over 2 hours to go to a Chipotle. I'm in VA and it was in NC. And I've traveled over an hour to hit up a Sonic. It was sooo worth it both times!
You must have some pretty good fast food in the States, cuz there's nothing up here I would travel more than 15 minutes for!
@4everdecember: Oh goodness, if I lived that far from a Chick Fil A, I'd probably consider moving. Lol, I am so thankful to have a Chick Fil A around me.
oh man when i was preggo it was BAD!i wanted Taco bell a lot! so it was abou a 15 minute drive from where we lived at.
tomorrow i leave sydney 4pm for a 8hr flight to singapore, im leaving the airport to go to the marina for the best steamed pork buns ive ever had and then im going back to the airport for my connecting flight! and repeat on my return flight
i didnt have to go via Singapore but the pork buns sealed the deal so i chose that flight over a Bangkok connection
i also once flew sydney to seattle and walked into the first Dennys i saw for a club sandwich - we dont have Dennys here and i love those things!
@Eight6Eleven: Omg, please give me that recipe! I have been wanting to make it at home for so long now because I can't always afford Chick Fil A. It's kind of expensive. Since I always get the large sized value meal, it's like $7.
You are so lucky! There are no chick fil-a in New York. I try to justify the drive(and tolls) by going to the mall too.
I would love the recipe. I have to stock up on the sauce wherever I visit my parents in florida.
Occasionally, if I have a fierce craving - and especially if I'm feeling burned-out on top of that - I will drive 30 minutes to get fast food.
[Unfortunately, the nearest Chick-fil-a is STATES away - but as soon as I'm within a half hour of one, I am THERE. Soooooo delicious.]
I don't have a car, so everything for me has to be by train. I will travel up to an hour if I have craving for something in particular. Thank goodness Shake Shack is finally coming to Brooklyn -- REJOICE!!! A friend of mine introduced me to Wegmans, omg I still dream about dish I got from there. The closest one to me i think is going upstate. When I do finally get a ride, I'm so heading there.
But in the past me and my gf would travel to other states (by plane) for Emerils. Technically not fast food but I've dinned at 10 of his resturants nationwide. Our first meal was at Nola's in New Orleans and we feel in love. So decided to visit his all his resturants and planned weekends around our meals. It was fabulous. We done resurants in: Vegas (3),FL (3), New Orleans (3), the one in Atlanta (which closed). We have yet to do the ones in PA and looks like a new one openned up in Vegas.
Tonight we went to McDonalds, because we both got caught on projects today and for once I didn't have anything planned or ready for dinner. I think this was the first time we have been there in about a year. When we started planning our wedding last year we cut fast food out of the budget completely, so I haven't had any Burger King, Taco Bell, McDonalds, or Sonics in months and months. I have to say, that McRib tonight wasn't as good as I remembered. I was a little disappointed, although the fries were heavenly. Still, I could have made three decent dinners for both of us for the amount of money we spent on this one meal.
In this case, we drove exactly 1 mile. I think that's as far as I would go.
I drive to Philly sometimes for a real cheesesteak (that's 2 hours) but we stay all day! Sometimes we drive to WaWa which is an hour away but Sheetz is better so that's quite rare!
If I ever leave PA to move to Ocean City Maryland like we plan to.... I will drive back here all the time for Neato Burrito (which is 4 hours away but WORTH IT). Yum.
@HappilyEverAfter54: YES! Cheesesteaks. My sister lives there so its the chinatown bus for me. I love Jim's and Ishkabibble's. Damn now i'm hungry.
@bklynbridetobe: me tooooo!
If sit down places are included at all I seriously make 2 to 4 trips to the beach (OC MD) every year to eat at Shenanigans! That's a 4 hour drive both ways with outragious hotel prices! So we more than once drove 8 hours for the day and just to eat there... lol Like I said if we move there were totally doing this for Neato Burrito back home. lol
I suspect my DH only went to Alabama for his high school reunion for the food. He craves the food and sweet tea from Milo's Hamburgers. We live in Arizona, so he doesn't get it very often! We have tons of fast food close to us, so I generally have my pick!
Mmm I love shake shack! I haunt been in a long time. Where are they opening one in Brooklyn?
I will drive 20 to get to Chipotle. We have everything all over so its not a lot of driving usually.
@NDBee: I have never heard of this Chik-Fil-A though! LOL
I have never traveled just for fast food. It's all close by anyway. The only "fast food" place I would travel for is Dunkin Donuts to get a coffee. I don't eat any of their food, but I will change the way I go from point A to point B so I go by a Dunkin. It's not hard there are 4 in my town and 5 others that are right over town lines. I swear they spike the coffee with something, even if I have had a few cups already I never turn down Dunkin coffee.
On my friends wedding day we drove 45 mins to Sonic because she really wanted a cheeseburger for breakfast. It was awesome
There's a Chick fil a about 25 minutes from us that we'll make a special trip for once in awhile. We've also driven completely out of the way to go to Five Guys.
@4everdecember: Theres a Chick Fil a at NYU
In college, my roommate took me across the city to a Taco Bell because I had never been to one before. I was not impressed.
There's a Chik-fil-A about 300 yards from where I'm sitting (on a college campus...it's one building over), but there's a man rolling sushi abotu 50 yards in front of it, so that usually gets my attention. :)
With the mention of Shake Shack, maybe there should be a spin off "how long would you wait in line." The line they had in madison sq park during lunch time used to taunt me. I wonder if it's gotten better since more sites have been popping up.
I generally don't eat fast food, but I'm a sucker for Arby's. When I found one close to me, I made a deal with myself that if I go there, I have to ride my bike. It's about 3.5 miles each way, about a 1/2 hour ride each way (with traffic).
Um. If there was a Chick-Fil-A 45 minutes away from me I would be going there ALL the time.
Did you know there's one in the NYU campus?
@Pinksapphire: It IS expensive! Here's the copycat to try. If you don't have a pressure cooker or deep frier, you can fry the chicken in a deep skillet on the stovetop.
3C peanut oil, 1 egg, 1C milk, 1C flour, 1.5 TB powdered sugar, 1/2 tsp pepper, 2TB salt, 2 boneless skinless chicken breasts, halved, 4 white (or wheat!) hamburger buns, 2TB melted butter and 8 dill pickles.
Pour the peanut oil into the pressure cooker and bring it to about 400F. In a small bowl, beat the egg and add the milk. In a seperate bowl, combine flour, sugar, salt and pepper. Dip each chicken piece in the egg milk until it's completely moistened then dredge chicken in flour mixture. Drop your chicken into the oil and close the lid but leave the steam vents OPEN! (otherwise your pot can explode) When steam starts coming out of the vents set a timer for 3.5 minutes. Butter your hamburger buns with melted butter. I like to lightly toast mine. When chicken is done drain it on some paper towels and put in on the buns with 2 pickles (under the chicken, of course, or it's just not the same!)
You'll have to let me know what you think after you try it!
@msgraphics: I think I've waited 40 minutes for Shake Shack...
I once waited over an hour for Hot Doug's in Chicago. I wanted to try a foie gras hot dog!
