Since we are driving to our honeymoon (it's only 3 hours from where we live) we were able to book it pretty far in advance. We found this awesome cabin in the mountains and I wanted to book it immediately because it was so perfect and October is prime season up there.
Well I haven't booked mine yet. I would like to maybe get air tickets by the end of March/April. That is a little under 6 month in advance.
In general, it depends on where I am going. I just booked my tickets/hotel to Vegas for March a few weeks ago (about 2 months out). I'll actually probably get my tickets/hotel for Vegas in July this month but that's mostly because I already know I am going and tickets are a good price, so I might as well. I already got the hotel booked because prices dropped a decent amount and I didn't want them to go back up.
I think 5-6 months is plenty of time for long vacations. But I would book up to a month or two before. I'm not really a last-minute deals type of person either. I'm organized and a planner.
9 months for us! I'm a type-A planner so wanted to get it squared away and know how much we had to save. Plus we're travelling during spring break so we had to make sure we could get reservations where we wanted them!
3 months out and we still haven't booked ours! Mostly because we can't decide on where to go. I'm not too worried about it though. I think we usually book our vacations a couple months in advance and it always works out.
I think we booked back in October, so about 4 months out. We are cruising to the Eastern Caribbean :)
We got married this past September and booked our honeymoon the December before so 9 months! We got an all-inclusive 6night/7day at a 5 star adults-only resort in Punta Cana with airfare included for $2500 for the two of us. Best vacation of my life and we got a great deal for booking so far in advance! I say if you can book early, do it!
We are booking our honeymoon to Cabo tonight! We have been watching prices for awhile, so we decided since they are at a comfortable price we would go ahead and book the vacation- just in case they go up. We are getting married in 7 months so I feel that is a good amount ahead of time.
Already booked it :)! Our plan is to go to Bodrum in Turkey. I saw my friends photos n Bodrum and they were great!! The shining sun, amazing blue sea, sand, all beautiful nature were there. And then I just like "wanna be in this photo frame" and after all my convinced on my future hubby, we make a reservation, lol! Cant waiting :)
We just booked ours last night! Our wedding is in Philly in September. We're flying out the next day for 6 days in Curacao. We'll take a longer trip to Bora Bora 2 months later but we didn't want to do the 21 hour trek the day after our wedding. Too much after a long week - get us to the beach stat!
I don't think there is a perfect time to book. When you have the funds or when you find the deal, go for it. Whatever works for you. We happened to find a great flight ddeal and jumped.
Since we planned our wedding in six weeks, and our honeymoon was the main event, it was booked first....We honeymooned on the island of Vatulele in Fiji for a week.
@Sparkle_Bee: We got married in Sept as well and because its hurricane season for most of the beautiful caribbean destinations we were looking at going - we waited in order to see if there were any storms or natural disasters that would keep us from enjoying it all.
We were right to wait as there were lots of hurricanes the whole month of Sept!
We booked about 5 days before leaving (I love last minute deals as well but I will do my research and narrow the choices down so I can keep an eye on the price! hehe) and we ended up on the Pacific side of Mexico to avoid all the tropical storms/hurricanes but still have the lush, 5* all-inclusive experience!
We loved it and the carribbean will be there for us when its not terrible weather! lol
@Nona99: Cool!!! Our honeymoon was def our main event too, we booked it a couple weeks after getting engaged (I.e. 9 months in advance). Australia is expensive, yo! And we got earlybird rates on airfare, which save us a lot of $$$.
@MissChelly: We honeymooned in Cabo in Sept too!!! :D
FI's parents paid for our honeymoon as a wedding gift (excluding airfare). We booked ours when we found the resort in Punta Cana through FI's parents' vacation club. They cashed in their points to send us and are also paying the all inclusive fee of $99 per person per day (YIKES!). We booked our flights as soon as we decided on the resort (maybe May or June?). FI's a planner though. He has to have things taken care of immediately or he drives himself (and me!) crazy! I'm more of a laid-back, go with the flow, kind of person.
3 weeks for us. We took a while to decide where we actually wanted to go. Plus the whole wedding was planned under 2 months before the date
@KimmySumShuga: Woohoo! Haven't seen too many bees who have. Did you enjoy it? I am a little worried about the weather but I'm sure a margarita could solve that problem lol! We're going to stay in San Jose instead of San Lucas.
@MissChelly: oh how fun! No no the weather will be perfect! We went at the end of Sept and it was still hot and gorgeous and clear.
Our resort was upscale Adults only so almost everyone we met was a honeymooning couple! hehe It was so fun! I'd highly recommend an adults only resort all inclusive resort because we made so many honeymoon friends and it was also very relaxed and peaceful!
We stayed in the Pueblo Bonito Pacifica Resort in Cabo San Lucas because we got an incredible deal and they also offer free shuttle to the other resorts in their chain and you can use the all inclusive options at every single one- we had the only adults only pool and most relaxing, scerne hotel but no swimable beach so we'd just go to the Rose which was right on the beach and have a whole day of relaxing there as well! If you tip well, the bartenders bring you drinks & food all day and the water is so warm and amazing and they have all kinds of activities you can do from the beach like stand up paddleboarding or jetski or boat rides to the arch!
I spent most of my days doing this:
and we had many meals like this:

it was sooo romantic... and the non-stop drinks/food was what dreams are made of! lol
If you haven't booked yet, I'd highly recommend it!

Although we've done a lot of Mexico exploring (we met in Cancun and I live in southern CA so I've been to mexico 25+ times) we didn't really like the look of the town so we didn't do much of the clubbing & etc but we really enjoyed the whole all-inclusive resort experience and the other couples we met.
I'm excited for you!!!!
we booked the resort about 6 or 7 months out and the plane tickets 3-4 months out. It's spring break so we wanted to get a good price and make sure things weren't all booked up.
we started heavily researching in late August and finally booked in November (flights and land) so about 11 months out.
It definitely depends on where you want to travel to. If I was going to the Caribbean or Mexico, I would probably book 4-6 months out.
@mchitt329: I'm also very type A when it comes to planning! We booked ours just shy of a year in advance. To be fair though, we're doing a wedding-moon so it was a little bit different.
@Sparkle_Bee: We are going international and I found a great deal on plane tickets from the US to Europe (Greece) 9 months out and booked them. We booked all hotels, ferries, and planes within Europe (to Istanbul) 6 months out. For me, it was easier to plan in advance than most other wedding things and I wanted to make sure we got good deals.
We booked our honeymoon in september and we are leaving 2 days after our wedding in April. We did book our airfair later, not until January. Are you using a travel agent? That seemed to be the best way to do it for us.
I've heard 6-9 months is best to secure what you want.

Our wedding is this September, and we wanted to leave for our honeymoon within a week.
How far in advance did you book your honeymoon?
How far in advance do you book your vacations, in general? I l like to book months in advance and secure my flights/hotel, etc. My MOH likes last-minute deals... She took off for europe after booking her flight 2 days prior!
