@LilySarah:  Married on August 30th this year…left for honeymoon on Sept 1st. (2 days later)

Booked flights in June (2 1/2 months out)
Booked first hotel september 1st. (day we left)

Haha….we booked everything only a few days in advance as the honeymoon went on. Sometimes it sucked not knowing where you were gonna stay for the night, but generally we found we loved it because it let us change our plans if we loved a place. 🙂

To be honest, we planned on planning it more, but just had no time with wedding stuff. But im glad we did it the way we did. We travelled through switzerland and Italy. We did know the general itinerary of places we wanted to see while there, so that helped. Just letting you know that you are not screwed because you havent done it yet at 8 months out!

I’ve always heard that for flights, you should book 4-5 months out (a little more if you’re traveling internationally).

I never book early.  The best deals for resorts are usually a week or two out.

But I also believe that all resorts are about the same (within the same star rating), and taht it doesn’t really matter.

I am a very flexible traveller though.

We booked our cruise (yuck, don’t do it), 2 weeks before hand.

We booked ours last month and our wedding is mid-June.. so about 9 months in advance. We needed to do it quickly, because the parts of New Brunswick and PEI that we wanted to visit book very early and there aren’t a ton of options for accommodations.

We booked ours 6 months out. We’re traveling at a high season and some stuff was already all booked up!

Booked the flights about 10 months ahead, and had hotels booked as well but then we decide to do a VRBO and got that booked a few months ago, so about 7 months ahead.

We booked it a year in advance. We saved a ton of money!

@LilySarah:  We booked at 8 months out because we were very certain we wanted to go on a particular cruise the day after the wedding and wanted certain shore excursions so we booked those too!

That’s the exact question I wanted to ask right now! I think about 6 months in advance is preferable. We plan to go to Disney World and we already booked all our restaurant reservations. And we already bought annual passes some months ago. Now we just need to figure out a hotel. I just want to find one I don’t have to pay anything right now.

We did a road trip through New England so we didn’t have to “book it” per se, and we honestly hadn’t booked a single night of accomodation until two days after our wedding (the day before we left) and that was really exciting because usually we are super-planners.
