This question seems simple enough but we are having a hard time getting our honeymoon timeline together! We have an August 2010 wedding date and are thinking about risking hurricane season and going to the caribbean, but possibly Hawaii. I know you get good travel deals by booking early, but as of late it seems like there are fantastic last minute deals. We'd like to go in August after our wedding but have also considered pushing it back to October. Anyway, how many months/weeks in advance did you book your trip?

    Thanks Hive!

I haven't yet but I'd try to book at least a few months in advance. I wouldn't book too early since it isn't a huge priority.

Most people say you should have it in the bag about 6-8 months in advance.

We had the place picked out more than a year in advance and booked it last october (10 months ahead of time).  When prices dropped this year for airlines, we looked at re-booking, but the price of the resort had gone up so it would have been the same price.  We're going to Adventura Spa Palace in Playa del Carmen, Mexico.  We're taking a chance with the hurricanes, but also bought travel insurance just in case.

I'd say book it at least 6 months in advance. Earlier can't hurt though.

We were only engaged 5 months in advance, set the date four months in advance. We didn't end up booking our honeymoon until we had about 7 weeks to go till our wedding! I think we still managed to get a pretty sweet deal though.

We booked our October 2009 honeymoon in October 2008. We are going to the Tennessee mountains. We went ahead and booked for several reasons-it is high season in the mountains with the spectacular leaf show, so when we found a cabin that we wanted, we wanted to be sure to get it. With gas being so expensive last summer & fall-many places had "bargain basement" prices and promotions to lure people to their destination-we were able to get those prices and some GREAT deals on our lodging. We also had the peace of mind that this big item was crossed off our to do list.

If you plan to travel during hurricane season, I would definitely get the trip insurance if you can-hurricanes are definitely a honeymoon dampener in the islands that you don't want for sure!

Thanks for all the info! I'm thinking we need to narrow down the options now so we can book around the 6 month out mark - my fiance is actually planning the honeymoon, so I wont know where we are going till the airport - but we will definitely be doing the insurance!

@ Palm Tree -- so cute that your FI is planning the honeymoon. That will be a fun surprise!

We decided in Jamaica around the one year mark and narrowed our pick down to Sandals Whitehouse about 10 months out. We're going to be booking sometime between now and September while great deals are running.

We're at 6 months out and I've yet to figure out where to go.  FI is of no help.  He just wants a beach. :)
