I'm getting married in January 2011 and I asked my girls about 2 weeks ago. It's early, but I got too excited and I couldn't wait any longer!!
I asked mine ridiculously early...like two years in advance. But we had a long engagement and I knew who I wanted and I wasn't going to change my mind on it.
I asked my best friend to be MOH right after she screamed seeing my ring! lol. I asked everyone else (2 sisters) shortly after. It took me a little while to decide on a 4th but as soon as I knew I asked her to! I would say since you have a little ways to go yet hold off cause you never know what can happen in 1.5 yrs. . . maybe on the 1 year mark ask them . but if you know these girls are going to be there with you for life. Go for it!
I asked mine as soon as I got engaged. But originally I was going to get married in 2011 so that would have been 2 years out. We had to move the wedding up so it ended up being 1 year out - but my MOH needed to get a visa so the more time the better!
wow! i am surprised so many people asked early! i am having a really hard time keeping my mouth shut lol. i'm going to try to wait until i am a year out!
I asked them as soon as I got engaged, pretty much. I didn't want them wondering "Am I a bridesmaid, am I not?"
I waited a bit to ask my girls. I got engaged Christmas of '08 and we are getting married in June. I asked my MOH first--maybe March and my SIL knew she was going to be a bridesmaid right after we got engaged. But I asked the last BM in June. So about a year from the wedding.
I asked my bridesmaids several months after getting engaged (about 10 months out from the wedding). I know it probably created some "Am I a bridesmaid or not?" questions but it was important for me to not feel pressured to immediately decide. I graduated from college around the time of my engagement and wanted to see that my close friends didn't disappear just because we weren't in the same city anymore. Overall, I am glad that I waited a little while.
I'm not for sure, but I'm thinking that it was somewhere between 6-9 months out...
i asked mine within a month of getting engaged, which will end up being about 17 months early. My wedding will be a destination for all of them, so I wanted to make sure that they had enough time to plan ahead! And i was so excited that i just wanted to ask them as soon as I could come up with a creative way of doing it.
I asked them in late June, 2009, a few weeks after getting engaged, when I thought I'd be having a wedding in late 2011. We've since bumped up the date by over a year, and other than making sure that wouldn't be a hardship on anyone (it wasn't), it's worked out fine.
We got engaged early July, I asked the girls in August and we got married in June. I wanted them to have plenty of time to plan and help me with projects :)
i am DYING to ask my one friend but my sister and my mom keep saying i should wait!! i'm trying to at least wait until i go home in november so i can ask her in person but it's tough!!
OttawaBride - I am getting married in July 2011 and I think I will ask my girls soon. I have been engaged for several months now and don't want my friends to worry or have their feelings hurt because they think they weren't chosen. If you dont think your choices will change, then go for it!
i asked mine about a month ago- wedding is 10/2010. i was excited to ask them and i also felt the need to have some "wedding buzz" around me. :)
I've asked some of mine already. The others (cousins) I'll ask sometime in the next month. :)
I asked them about 10 months after I got engaged, which is about 11 months before my wedding date.
Engaged 2007 - asked 2008 - married 2010. Story goes.. We were supposed to get married in June of this year and postponed it for June of next year. Plus I had an original group of girls that were suppose to be bridesmaids but they all just ended up ditching me when my parents went through a seperation and never were there for me. So i had to start over. So.. the first group was asked in 2007. like two months after i got engaged.
i'm struggling with this too since our wedding is in october of 2011!
i have 3 girls ( my sis, his sis, and my best friend ) that i know for sure will be in..no change, but the other 2 ( college friends) i'm not positive i'll ask.
should i ask the 3 at christmas? (my original plan because we'll be engaged a year by then ) or wait to ask all 5 at the same time?
I asked mine within a month and I did it by mailing them each a cookie that said "Will you be my bridesmaid?" from weddingish.com. Everyone LOVED that!
But my advice.....REALLY think about who you want it to be! All of my bridesmaids have been friends with me from 10 years up to as long as 26 years and I asked one girl out of pity and I regret taht! She's a friend but not as good a friend as the rest and I felt like I had to ask her b/c all the other girls were in the wedding.....WRONG! I should have just cut her out because I'm not even really friends with her anymore. Take your time for sure, but give them at least 6-7 months notice so they can order their dresses.
I was engaged less than a month ago and I just asked my girls. My wedding isn't until June 4th 2011. The best part was none of them expected it and they all cried. It was amazing. I got them all a star ornament and asked them to be my shining star for my big day.
I asked them about 4 months after we got engaged, about 14 months before the wedding date. :)
so i got engaged july 15 2009, and i asked all of my bridesmaids within 4 months, each of them at different times...i have 7 bridesmaids so i can't remember exactly but the last one was asked this month..wedding is september 2010, 10 months from the wedding day...good luck!!
I asked all of mine right away -- pretty much 18 months in advance of the wedding.
