My FI is buying his suit for the wedding, but he's in a wedding on October 17th & he's getting his tux tomorrow. Actually, I'm pretty sure they all are... that's a little too last minute for my liking, but apparently you can wait until 3 weeks before. :)
You have tons of time. At most chain places, you can rent a tux with no rush fees up to two weeks in advance. We bought my FI tuxedo, but the didn't get the groomsmen sorted out until the two week mark, and everything's ordered and fine.
This is really helpful! Thanks hive :) Now i'll stop worrying that FI hasn't finished asking his groomsmen...
You might want to just stop in a shop, two or three months in advance, and have him try some on. Will help to decide if you want three button or two button, notch or peak or shawl lapel, wing collar or flat collar, jacket length, etc.
our wedding is june 5 and we are going feb 13 to get our tuxes!
I think it is good to know exactly what you want and communicate that to your groomsmen a few months out, but most tux places recommend you actually place your rental order three or four weeks out, so that's what we're doing.

We are getting married May 22, 2010 and I have no idea when to start his attire process... when should we start looking? when does he get fitted? how far in advance does this all need to happen?
thanks for your help!
