How much ahead of time do you need to order the dress? I haven’t ordered yet. I’m probably going to be ordering directly from an AA store, which I heard may be quicker than a bridal salon?
My wedding is 9 months from yesterday. However, I’m hoping not to order until 6 months out. Is this cutting it too close? The reason is they had their big bridal sale back in the end of September, which is up to $300 off wedding gowns. I’d like to wait until their next big sale but I think it will be at the end of December (I’m pretty sure it’s on a three month cycle). My wedding is in the beginning of July. Is that enough time?

I ordered mine a year in advance. It was earlier than I thought I would, but I knew what dress I wanted and it was going up in price. I think if you know what dress you want, go ahead and order it. You never know if it will go up in price.

You should ask someone at the AA store how long it typically takes for the gown to come in. I ordered my dress about 5 months ago and it’s still not here, but they told me when ordering that it wouldn’t be here till November at the earliest (6mo). But my wedding is still about a year away, so I’m not worried about it. My dress is not an AA, though.. I know different designers have different time frames.. so you should just ask.

To me, that is cutting it too close. I ordered mine this past summer and my wedding is this coming August. I thought it was a lot of time, but my dress was supposed to come in in December. It came a bit early (a few weeks ago) but it was ALL WRONG. They are having to send it back to the manufacturer, which could take another five months! If I had cut it too close, I would be stuck with the version they sent which is different from what I ordered.

Oh, just checked the AA website. The website states that their wedding and BM gowns take 10-12 weeks to come into the store that you ordered from.

Just keep in mind that you may have to build in alteration time. Is there someone at the store you could talk to?

For 10-12 weeks, I’d say that you’re probably safe at 6mo. Like a PP said, there is always the possibility that the incorrect dress might come in. You want to make sure that you have time to reorder or find a dress off the rack, in case the worst possible scenario plays out. Also, you probably want a month or two for alterations.

I ordered my dress from AA and it took 12 weeks to come in. I think you will be fine ordering it 6 months out. I ordered mine 10 months out and now it’s just hanging in a closet because they won’t keep the dress there for you.

I would check with AA, but 6 mos should be fine. Most dresses that are ordered come in 10-12 weeks.
