i’m growing my hair out, as i’m not sure what i want to do with it for the wedding. i figure i can always go shorter but i can’t just as easily make it longer! i had a few ideas for ‘wedding hair’, but i’m not sure how long my hair will be and if i’ll need clip in extensions or not. i’ve kept it above my shoulders since i graduated high school, so i don’t really know how long growing it out takes.
how fast does hair usually grow? those of you who are/did grow it out, how long did you do it for and how much length did you gain in about 6 months?

My hair grows abnormally fast, about an inch a month. I went from a short pixie cut to an inch below my collar blades in just under a year.
ETA: I’ve read that the average growth is 1/4-1/2 inch a month.

1/2 inch per month is the norm. Mine grows a little faster than that I think. So you’re looking at probably an extra 3 inches in 6 months. I recommend splurging on a good conditioner to keep your hair healthy and your ends from breaking.

Go for extensions if only for extra body!
I’ve heard it grows faster in the summer.
It took me about 5 years to grow mine from super short (3 inches long) to super long (to the bra line).
It took me 6 months to grow my bangs from eyebrow-length to mouth-length. (over winter)

@mg1363: good idea! have you used redkin anti snap? i think that’s what it’s called. i’ve heard good things about that one to make sure i keep what i have in good shape=)
@cvbee: i think that summer thing is totally true! i’ve noticed that in years past, my hair def grew faster in the summer. that’s to my benefit this year! wow, 5 years of growing it out! that is serious dedication! i don’t think i have that much will power=( my mom & i were joking today that knowing me, i’d be likely to grow it all out & then hack it all off the week before the wedding, lol. i have a tendency to get bored with my hair=)

Mine grows about an inch a month. It grows like a weed and right now driving me crazy. I normally get trims every 4 to 6 weeks but with the wedding I am stretching that out quite a bit for trims.

I think half an inch each month is usually the norm, but now that my hair is long it seems to have slowed a bit. Mine used to be above my shoulders my sophomore year of college and now 4 years later it’s 2 inches past my bra strap. Keeping it trimmed so it doesn’t break is super important. I also use tresseme’s anti-breakage products with less sls and massage my scalp to stimulate circulation.

Mine grows a bit faster than average. I got it hacked off last year and it grew at least 6 inches since then, definitely more.
If you want your hair to grow faster, take care of it! Don’t dye it, perm it, or relax it, and try as hard as you can to resist blowdrying, straightening, and curling irons. Also don’t use all sorts of chemical-laden products on it and don’t wash it more than you have to.

My hair grows really quick as well. about 1/2 in to 1 in a month!

My hair was buzzed in January of last year to 1/8″ and is now several inches past my shoulders. I have no idea why or how it grows that fast, but it is awesome!

I just measured mine, and it has grown 16″ in sixteen months, so about 1″ per month. 🙂
The only product I use on my hair is Paul Mitchel tea tree shampoo and Paul Mitchel hair spray. And I don’t perm or color my hair.

@Oribel013690: those are all great pieces of advice, i try to do most of them, but unfortunately, at the ripe old age of 26, i have grays! so i have to color it=( i wash it every other day and am trying to only heat set it when i have somewhere important to go. basically i have decided that it’s ok for me to have bad hair for the next 6 months, as long as it looks good on our wedding day=)
@SBourgeous: wow! i’m imagining one of those dolls that you can make the hair grow=) so lucky!

I wish my hair grew that fast. I am probably at the other end of the spectrum where it grows maybe a 1/4 of an inch a month. I usually get it trimmed/cut about an inch every 3-4 months and it just seems shorter every time I do that. It once took me almost 2 years to grow it from the shoulders to mid back which is only like 4 inches. So unfortunately for me it takes forever.
