I thought the whole process, while a bit time consuming, was pretty easy. For me, the kit wasn’t worth it because it did not cut down on any of the waiting time; I still had to go into the DMV, I still had to go into my bank, and I still wanted to go to SSA in person (to avoid having to mail my passport in).

I bought the http://www.missnowmrs.com membership because married friends have told me that there are way too many things to do, and lots and lots of places you need to make sure your name is changed.

Part of me is lazy (and expecting to have enough to do right after the wedding) and part of me likes that a website will help guide me through the process so I won’t miss anything.  I’m sure that most brides do just fine on their own without using a service, but for a very small price I can get help.  Just my own preference.

I didn’t find the process that difficult to where I would have needed to purchase a kit.  Once i received my certified marriage certificate, I went to the DMV and got a new license, then went to the Social Security Administration and applied for a new SS card and that was the extent of what I did right away.  I sowly canged the rest (i.e. bank, credit cards, student loans, etc.)  You will need the marriage certificate to change most of it, so I suggest getting two copies right at the beginning (one to file at home and one for you to carry).  The main things are your drivers license and social security card, everything else can be done over time.  (You’d be amazed what things you forget are in your maiden name).

I think the kit was pretty worthless. 95% of my time was spent waiting in DMV lines, watiting on my SS card, faxing stuff a million times to my 4 credit cards, banks, etc.

Filling out the forms was pretty easy.
