@Pikachu42:  I literally shopped around for every single vendor. I feel like we got the best price on everything. There were a few things I was adamant on having, i.e. expensive photographer and a trolley (which is more expensive than more traditional options). But overall I made sure we got the best price on everything. I searched websites like wedding wire and figured it out from there.

We also cut back on a lot of things. I literally put a full paycheck away each month for the wedding. We didn’t go out as much, cut back on shopping, etc.

My biggest money saver(pending no rain forecast) will be having the wedding and the reception in my Grandmother’s back yard where my Grandfather once kept his garden. I have been buying old used picnic tables to refinish and am thinking about using them for dinner tables. I have 3 tables so far and only invested $30.

We’re also doing a lot of the food ourselves and only having some things catered.

My daughter and I are taking cake decorating classes and will do my wedding cake and cupcakes.

I’m doing a lot of DIY, but let me tell you, that’s not always the cheapest route. I started collecting glassware and blue mason jars, along with other vintage type items back in January and I’m pretty sure I’ve already spent well over $1000 and still haven’t bought the first plate.

Speaking of plates, I guess I am saving some money there. I’m going to buy at least 100 of the 10 inch glass plates from the dollar store and then glue a fabric pattern that matches our wedding colors to the bottom of the plates.

Here is a picture of some of the glassware I’ve bought. In the front, you see a plate with daisies on it. That’s where I got the idea for my plates, only they won’t be daisies.

I am working with artificial florals and buying them as they get marked down at the end of each season.

I don’t put quite that much away each month, but I too put money away each month. In fact, I got a Walmart prepaid Visa card to put the money on to use for the wedding only. That way, I can keep up with how much I’m spending and on what I’m spending it and I’m not using my real credit cards that charge me interest and my bank account never misses it.

And yeah, we don’t go out as much either and we didn’t take a vacation this spring with the kids like we do every year. I’m still hoping we’ll be able to at least take them to Tybee Island or Myrtle Beach with the rest of my extended family this summer.

Well..first i cut on expenses since last year – for example..i was paying for health insurance (here it’s not mandatory, we’ve a so-so public health service) for the 4 of them (husbando-tobe, daughters and stepson) and i found out that through my company’s insurance i would pay half of what i was paying (-150€/month) Also, i used to send most of our clothes to iron outside (i am ALWAYS late with ironing..) so that went too (- 60€/month). I cancelled my gym card (..) for awhile so – 60€/month. All together i saved 270€/month just in these things..

For every item i researched at least 6 vendors. And when tempted..i kept reminding me we wanted a SIMPLE wedding.

Invitations – 0,80€/each

dress – 695€ (my mum paid 600€ and i put the rest)

veil – my biggest extravagance..390€ (!) yeah..so i could have cut here as well

shoes – 100€ (another extravagance..) so i could have done better

necklace – 44€ (silver with Swarovsky)

Wedding flowers and decoration altogether, including bouquet- 300€ (now THIS was cheap)

Photographer – 150€ 🙂 for 5 hours of work plus 80€ for our album and DVD

Honeymoon – Azores! 300€ plane tickets + 158€ boat tickets (we’re staying in 3 islands), 600€ in acommodation, with breakfast  (10 days), 178€ rent-a-car

Favors for kids – organza bags made by me (!) with chocolate – no idea how €!

Favors for men – 0,70€ each bottle plus 0,01€ per label I designed. Licquor made by my mother

Favors for ladies – 1,50€ per potted lavander

wedding bands – 700€.. i wanted cheaper ones, but..and now mine doesn’t match my e-ring!

As for the reception…3800€ total (53 people)

Could we done a lot better? Yes. But we’re happy about it.
