We were seriously looking to relocate to WA and OR but we spent some time up in Waterbury and just fell in love.
I’ve read up on the economy, asked some locals and we even have family in Plattsburgh but nobody has much to say. Lots of people stated that the job market was bad but everything I’m reading was posted from 2008-2011. I’m wondering if it’s on the ups?
We’re not talking six-figure jobs, here. Just decent, low but liveable pay with health insurance. Hard to get? I’m in healthcare science/lab and he’s in film/camera work
But we’re both up for holding down two jobs each to get us started. Retail if we have to. We don’t have grand expectations when starting off. I don’t understand it. They say if you can make it in NYC you can make it “anywhere” but we just can’t seem to get out of this god forsaken city!
All Vermont experts, I thank you in advance!

@skippydarling: It’s very hard. You really need to be near Burlington to find jobs like that, but the cost of living is very high (overall, but more so in burlington area). If you have experience in restaurants or retail I think you should be fine finding that type of work, though you might have more luck with healthcare science (the large medical system of Fletcher Allen) than film, but it can’t hurt to start applying. It’s not impossible and it’s not 2008-2011, but it’s not like this is the land of plenty. I moved to a rural area not near Burlington (because my FI is in grad school) and I’m effectively 1.5-2 hours from anything, and there’s only one major employer in my area…and it’s hard to break through that barrier. I’ve been living here for a little over a year, you’re welcome to PM me anytime (or share email if you’re not worried about privacy – if you move, I’d love to make more friends!!)
