My old ring was a radiant cut diamond. I loved it, but always wanted a ring similar to the 1895 Cartier ring..so I opted for a round solitaire with two baguettes on each side. When she finally comes to rest on my left hand that is!
You? How is your engagement ring different?

Oooooo boy. Mine is SOOOOOOOO different. Pretty much in every way. I wanted it to be different of course (at least white gold, since i like it better than yellow gold), but had no clue it’d be THIS different!
Old ring: Yellow gold, .2 carat round solitaire diamond. Solid yellow gold band with it. Similar to this.
Forever ring: White gold, considerably larger marquise cut diamond with a pave surround and sidestones, plus eternity wedding band. Similar to this (but with a smaller stone, that one looks HuuuuuuUGE).

Don’t you hate it when you compose a nice, well-written, and detailed post, and then your computer locks up and you lose what you wrote? Yeah, me too. So, I’ll write an abbreviated post and back it up with pictures (of the new ring).
Old ring: Even though we had discussed it, I had no idea he was ring shopping without me, so I had no say in the ring. It was yellow gold with a .5ct round diamond sitting on a gold wave going diagonally across the band. Going down each side of the band was 5 small accent diamonds.
New ring: We went ring shopping together, so I had A LOT of input on this one. It’s a 1.34ct oval in a platinum setting from the 1940s. A jeweler we were working with had a few diamonds brought in for us to look at, FI couldn’t go at the time so I went by myself. While I was there I started looking at the estate jewelry display case for giggles. The jeweler pulled out a tray for me and I immediately zoned in on this setting. I tried it on and it fit pefectly, but it was in desperate need of a cleaning and the head was for a round diamond, so I put it back in the tray and didn’t think any more about it. A couple weeks later, FI completely surprised me with that ring, but it was cleaned, polished, and the head had been changed out to hold an oval. It turned out more beautiful than I ever could’ve imagined!

Oh, by the way, I had no idea the proposal was coming so I wasn’t able to go get a pre-proposal manicure. Please ignore the cuticles!

Oh AZwinelover that ring is to die for! How lovely! I love the diamonds in the band..are those channel set?
I’m getting my mani/pedi done 3 days before we leave to Jamaica b/c I have to have that engagement hand!
But it doesn’t matter. You nails look great! How about more ring shots?

First ring was a .5 diamond solitaire with a chanel set diamond band, both in yellow gold. Pretty. Classic. Same as alot of others. Not quite my style.
My Encore e-ring is a 1.15 emerald-cut saphire. The wedding band is slides around the saphire with two round diamonds and a pear cut saphire on each side. Pretty. Classic. Unique. Just my style. Plus my FI hunted around for MONTHS looking for just the right saphire.
However, just weeks after receiveing my e-ring, I noticed a HUGE chip in the stone. *sob* Thank heavens for that lifetime warranty.

I love sapphires! Very gorgeous stone!

I also went with a sapphire for my current ring. DF and I shopped together and talked about what we/ I wanted and found something that worked for both of us. We actually looked for a really long time and I love my ring. I had actually told him that I didn’t need one; however, I love my ring!
My first ring was a round solitare in yellow gold. I think this is what I always thought of as what an engagement ring is, because it’s close to what my mom and my grandmother had. It was very pretty, simple, but not really something we talked about or chose together as a reflection of either of us.

My old ring was a round half carat diamond with other diamonds in a channel setting. It was also hand carved and had a very "antiqu-y" feel. It was/is actually very beautiful.
My forever ring is a one carat sapphire. It has four small diamonds on each side that resemble flowers in the way they are arranged. We picked it out together from an estate jeweler and I absolutely LOVE it. No offense to anyone with diamonds, but I’m very over them and wanted something COMPLETELY different – that’s why we decided on a sapphire.

Saphires are SUPER lucky for the wedding day 🙂 Congrats on having good luck AND beautiful BLING!

I love sapphires! They are such a hard stone too. Great durability. My right hand ring has a large blue topaz surrounded by diamonds in an antique white gold setting with two Iolites on either side flanking it.
Iolites are another gorgeous dark stone! Also love tanzanite too!
Pink sapphires rock and also yellow!

Old ring… yellow gold, center brilliant stone, with shrimp-style waves and channel set diamonds around it…
New ring: couldn’t be more different… very architectural in feeling. Forgive the fingers, It was a surprize proposal for me too!
