I know what the application processing times are. Just wondering if it’s faster or not just for the name change.
It’s been 3 weeks since I sent it in and 2 weeks since my check was cashed. 😉
When I became naturalized it only took 2 weeks for me to get my passport even though processing time was 4-6 weeks.

It took me 3 weeks to get it back – did it in january! Yours may be slowed down by the impending government shutdown.

Mine took 2 weeks, but I paid for it to be expedited. The fact that you are changing your name (versus getting a new passport) does not make a difference in processing times. Just be aware that if the government shuts down next week there will be a significant delay in getting it back (maybe add an extra week).

Yea I figure if the shut down happens it’ll definitely be delayed due to that.
I’m not going anywhere anytime soon so no rush.

Does anyone know the cost of changing your name? I know that when a person gets their marriage license changing your name is optional and free. How much does it cost to get a new license with your new name? How much does it cost to get a new passport with your new name (passports are usually SO expensive)? Are there other fees when you change your name? I am hoping to hyphenate mine, but I may not do this if I have hundreds in fees. Most of the women in my family kept their maiden names, anyway. If I change my name right before my honeymoon, how can I get on a plane if the name is different on the ticket than it is on my license and passport?
