I need to get my alterations either Thanksgiving, Christmas, or the month of my wedding because of living in a different state. Any of these times will work with the bridal salon.
I’m worried about losing about 10-15 pounds between Thanksgiving and June and then the dress not fitting.
When did you get your alterations? Did a weight change affect the fit? Thank you!

I am getting my dressed hemmed and the straps shortened to fit in December. Then a month before getting anything done when I loose weight.

My wedding was in May and I didn’t start alterations until probably late April. I needed to get my shoes first. I did 2 fittings and my bff picked it up for me the week of the wedding! My seamstress was very accomodating though. She wasn’t able to fit me in any earlier and asked what date my wedding was to make sure everything would get done in time.
I did continue to lose a couple pounds the week of my wedding and my dress had no boning so in some flash guest pictures, you can see the lining a little bunched under the lace. I don’t think my seamstress could have done anything about that though.

I got my alterations started in April for my June 7 wedding. Then they let the dress out several inches instead of taking it in several inches when I went for my last fitting two weeks before the wedding. I was out of state so my mom just had to pick up my dress and I prayed it fit when I put it on the day of the wedding! It was a little big but the corset helped a lot.

My wedding was October 17, and my first alteration appointment was at the beginning of September. My last appointment was 2 weeks before the wedding. I went to a local lady who does her business from her home, so her time was very flexible and she was quick to get things back to me to try on again and go from there.

I work in a bridal boutique we normally recommend the first fitting be 8-6 weeks before the wedding.

I am getting my final alterations 1 to 2 months before my wedding particularly because of the weight loss I will have by then. Depending on how much weight I lose I may go in at the two month mark. A lot of weight loss can equate to a lot of alteration work and depending your gown can be tricky and take some time to do.

adomke: My dress arrived in my area at the end of September, I started the fitting process in October, and had my first appointment with the seamstress last week. The seamstress said that she was hoping to have the fittings complete by Christmas, and our wedding is being held at the beginning of January.
I wasn’t planning on loosing any weight for the wedding, so that didn’t play a role in my fitting process. However, I should say that I bought some new underwear between picking out the dress and starting the fitting process, so that alone means that my dress needs to be taken in, despite the fact that my measurements were sent when I ordered it.

adomke: 4 months but I have no plans to loose any weight and it’s a corset back so I have some wiggle room either way if I do loose/gain by accident

adomke: I purposely waited until 6 weeks out so i could lose the last 10 pounds! I would definitley wait until 6-8 weeks so you wont have to get it altered twice.

I’m getting my alterations done about 9 months in advance. BUT my seamstress is moving to Jamica in May so I need to do it before she moves. She only has to fix the zipper, cut the boning some, and chop off 9 in from the bottom. I don’t think I’ll magically grow 9 inches in the next year and couple of months. Other than that, mine has a corset back so if I gain or lose weight, it will still fit. I plan on losing though haha
