I bought mine 7 months before. It weirdly came only 2 1/2 weeks after I ordered it. I could have spent another month looking, but it's nice to know that I've got that squared away!
Besides, when you know, you know. Right?
I bought mine in September for my July wedding. It was at a dress re-sale shop and no way of being held, so it was do or die!
I love it still so I think it was the right choice :)
I bought mine 17 months in advanced! I still love my dress, and I don't have a second of regret. The only thing that makes me sad is that I want to wear it NOW :)... 6 more months to go.
I bought mine 10 months out from the wedding. I don't have any regret whatsoever and am still in love with the dress. The only thing about purchasing it so early is that it's sitting in the closet for forever before I get to wear it! I find myself pulling it out from time to time to see if it's still in one piece and having this desire to put it on for the millionth time. That sucka is not easy to put on and off! Finally though, it is now sitting at the seamstress so I no longer have that problem. Can't wait to put it on for reals 30 days from today!
I bought mine 1 year before my wedding. As the other girls have said, the worst part is that I want to wear it NOW! I put it on from time to time, because I start to second guess my choice but then I'm instantly reassured once I have it on because I still LOVE IT! No regrets at all!
I ordered mine 11 months before my wedding, and I've definitely had second thoughts. I really like my dress, and I always end up finding something about it that I like better than the contenders that come up, but I've been tempted to just go shopping a couple more times. Funny thing, it isn't the magazines that get me second guessing, but the real weddings I look at online. There is something about a blissful bride that makes me want her dress.
@doctorgirl... I wish I was a "when you know, you know" kind of girl for decisions like this. Luckily, I've never second guessed my choice in groom, I'm very decisive when it comes to that. :)
I bought mine over a year before my wedding... Back in August of '08 for my January 2010 wedding! I love it though, and haven't reconsidered once!
I bought mine 8ish months out and have no regrets so far. I received notice that it has come in yesterday and am very excited to see it! I would have liked to wait a bit longer to order because I'm afraid more alterations may be necessary (due to weight loss) by ordering it so early. I have seen other dresses, but have never wished I had ordered something else- not yet anyway. We'll see how I feel once my dress is on!
ummm I just picked up my dress today, and our wedding isnt until October. I figure if I change my mind between now and then, I can sell the dress if need be
Im going to be looking in May, which is almost a year before...our wedding is April 2010...we got engaged July 2008 and May is already long enough to wait!! I wanted to try on a dress right after we got engaged!!! LOL!! :)
8 months in advance. I am juggling grad school and wedding planning. I don't have that much time to do everything at once. So all the planning is being spread out. I might have kept looking for a gown- but I saw the dress and loved it- and won't have time to even just 'look' at other dresses to develop dress envoy or the want/regret for any other gown. (Thank goodness).
I just bought mine a couple weeks ago for a September wedding! Its supposed to come in May, i hope that there's no delays! No regrets so far!
I got engaged on July 6th, 2007. I bought my dress 3 days later on July 9th. I got married on July 5th, 2008. I didn't regret it although I still looked at wedding magazines to check out wedding dresses for fun. I love my wedding dress!
I ordered my dress on September 29th for my May 16th wedding. I got engaged in April and spent most of the summer looking for dresses. I was sure that I found The Dress, but my mom had a heart attack at the end of the summer, so that put a lot of the wedding plans on hold. Once she was fully into her recovery, I was able to go back to planning, so I ordered then. I think it gave me enough time to look for a dress (after being engaged for a few months) and enough time to allow for plenty of time for the dress to arrive/be altered. I haven't seen it since it came in, so I hope I still love it...
However, when I was shopping in July, I was totally yelled at by a sales associate who made a ginormous deal out of "how late" I was in ordering my dress. She kept saying that the wedding was "right around the corner", and when my mom pointed out to her that it was, in fact, 9 months away, the woman was totally rude to her. I mean, what were we supposed to do? Jump in a time machine and go back 3 months to look for dresses? At that point, it wasn't helpful!
i bought mine before i was even engaged! how's that for being ahead of the game?? i bought it in august (got a screamin' deal on a jim hjelm gown - same dress as mrs. peguin, in fact - on craigslist - never worn or altered) and we got engaged in october. we're getting married in nov. 2009. i suppose i still have a lot of time left to come up with some regret, but so far, no go. i see other dresses that i really like, but i am content with my purchase (maybe getting a GREAT deal makes me that much more satisfied?).
if i could have a few different weddings then i would definetly choose a different dress, but the one i've got will be great for the one and only wedding i'm planning on!
I bought mine (or will this weekend) 7 mos before my wedding b/c I LOVE IT and it's on sale b/c of a trunk show :)
I brought mine in October for my June wedding. It was my first I went trying on dresses. Had my eyes on this specific dress, but since mom was with me and would vetoe the first few dresses, I waited towards the end to try it on my dream dress. When I did, I KNEW it was what I wanted to walk down the isle. Everyone in the salon clapped and approved, even the guys were nodding their heads in approval. So I got the dress!!! And I have not changed my mind or seen any other dress I would even want to try. ;))))
I'm so confused. Why do people comment on 3 year old threads undless they have a question that they need help answering, and its related to a previous thread? Fill me in. :)

Those who bought too soon... did you have dress regret? Those who bought late... did you worry about it not coming in time/being able to get alterations in time?
What do you think is the perfect time to buy your dress?
I bought mine 7 months before. I'm gonna say 6 months is good... I def. had time to read magazines and wish I had bought a different dress.
