I know the standard rule seems to be to give it 6-9 months to include time for alterations but I’m interested in what some of your real experiences were!? Does it maybe vary by store or designer?
I ask because I’m at 9 months and don’t have my first official consultations til 8 months.. should I be worried?

I’m sure it varies, but mine only took 4 months. My mom’s dress on the other hand took 5 months.

My first dress took about 4 months. My second dress (which is replacing the first, and which I ordered today) could come in in two weeks, or it could take 4-5 months (soo the dress shop wasn’t really helpful there, lol). Keep in mind (as I’ve been told by 21340 bridal stores) that during parts of December and January (or all of both months, depending on who you’re talking to) production “completely stops” in China for Chinese New Year, so that’s at least 4 weeks, if not more, lost on your production timeline.

I purchased my dress at David’s Bridal. They told me it would take 3-4 months for the dress to arrive. The dress arrived 3 weeks later!
8 months should be enough time to get your dress.

I actually just bought mine last saturday at davids bridal and it came in on Thursday. So mine only took five days. I was actually surprised because reading the boards everyone was saying it took months to come in.

When I ordered mine, they said it would probably take 6 months because I had some special considerations. Adding straps & shortening the hem of the dress.

I would always check your dress from top to hem. Sometimes with big box chains, dresses get returned and sent back to the warehouse and then sent out again. I work at a formal wear store, and we see this happen all the time with dress lines. Dresses were worn in Fashion Shows, Photoshoots, etc then returned to the warehouse! Look for everything, bead work, dirt in the hem, smelly armpits, etc.
Don’t take anything but the best!

They told me 4-6 months and it was in within the month. Kinda shady IMO lol.

THey told me a minimum of 6 months and it came in 4 months including the Chinese New Year. My dress was Pronovias.

mine took 5 months to come in. my shop doesn’t start alterations until about 2 months before the wedding, so it just sat at the shop for 3 months until then. i’d say you have plenty of time.

I’m hoping I can narroow it down AT LEAST by 6 months….

I heard it varies by designer and style. They went over which designers I looked and and how long. The one dress I liked is all made in Canada and they said it only takes 3 months. Other dresses Were 6.
