Hmm. Ours was ready just recently, at about 4.5 months. With your six-month mark being so soon, you may want to be a little more assertive with your videographer, considering your contract says "up to" six months. Maybe they can give you an extra copy of the video or something to make up for the extra time? Don't be afraid to stand up for yourself though!
@Gemstone: Thanks for the feedback! If the video isn't back by the contracted time then I will definitely be asking for an extra copy or something. I feel like it has taken a long time, but I can't really say anything beacuse it is still within the contracted period. Hopefully it comes this week.
Our video package was basically for an approximately 2 hr highlights video, professionally edited. It came just around the 4 month mark and was very nice.
Given that you got a response back from your videographer, I'd try to be a little patient with him. At least he's keeping you informed of his progress. If you're next in line, maybe it will be a week or two over the contracted time, but you don't want him to rush it out the door for the sake of having it on time, right? Be glad that at least he's not avoiding your emails and calls like some of the other videographers bees have complained about on here. Make threats or ask for something to compensate when he's REALLY late or doesn't respond back promptly.
@bridalbell: He did respond to one, but completely ignored the latest e-mail. I had politely emailed at first asking if he had an idea of a potential date of completition because we were hoping to give a copy to my mom as a gift. He responded that it was next on the list but wanted to know what day we were hoping to give it to her on, whcih was the 28th of November and I wanted an idea if I should be expecting to give her the dvd or if I needed to get a different gift because it wouldn't be ready. I sent the e-mail at the beginning of November but he never responded again and the 28th passed and I was left to find a different present. I just would've appreciated a response about that issue, but since the date passed I haven't contacted him again. I'm waiting silently (to him) for it but I was just curious if the average bride had to wait 6 months too, because everyone else I spoke to felt that that was a long time.
And I'm definitely not a pushy type of person, so it would be worst case scenario before I go asking for him again where the video is, or include extra things for the time delay.
If he's ignored you, then that's a whole different story. It's one thing if he is behind on his work and being up front and honest about it with you, but it's another to ignore you. The reason I suggested being patient is because you never know what is happening on their end. My sister got her video back earlier than her 6 months contracted date, but my best friend, who used the same company, got her video back later. There was a death in the videographer's family that put him behind in his work, but he let her know that it would be late and gave her an approximate time. She was okay with that because he was in contact with her from then until she got her video back. I think 6 months is pretty standard, at least that's what my sister was told by everyone she met with.
I'd say anything under 6 months in pretty normal (but kind of on the long side). When I write up our contacts, I have it set to 8 - 10 weeks. No matter how long your contract says, you should make sure to get an update once in a while.

The videographer, which was reccommended by our venue, told us approximately one month. However, it took more than nine months.
Still waiting... They told us 6-12 months, and we are almost at 5. I'm thinking it will be closer to the 10 or above month mark since we haven't even got wedding photos back yet!
@Catherine: That would be driving me nuts!!! (I'd want to see everything so badly!) Honestly I get so giddy even just editing a wedding that I feel like I want to get them done right away! Not to mention, it reflects very positively on you as a professional to get your work done in a timely manner. You'd think they'd want that! Hopefully it'll all be worth the wait in the end. :)
I voted for less than 1 month, because technically my video was done at that point, I just took forever in getting him the songs we wanted used in it. I got the video about a week after I gave him the songs, so about 6 weeks after the wedding. That being said, my wedding was in the fall, which might have been a less busy time. It was also in a small town, so I don't know how busy he gets...
I'm sorry it's taking so long to get your video! What an agonizing wait! I hope you get it soon!!!!

Hi Bees,
It's now almost 6 months past our wedding and I'm dying to see our wedding video! We received the video trailer that is 1:50 long back in July which was great, but I can't wait to see the whole thing and I'm wondering how long it took everyone else to get their videos back?
Our contract states that it can take up to 3-6 months, but our 6 month mark is just under two weeks away. I emailed the videographer asking for an idea on a timeline because we were hoping to give the video to my mom yesterday, but he just said it was next in line to be worked on.
Did anyone else's take this long or am I just being too impatient?
Thanks!
