I emailed HR in January about changing my name. I got her the marriage certificate, she scanned it, and said that I didn’t have to do anything else. My name STILL hasn’t changed.
I emailed her a couple weeks ago and said I was just following up and wanted to see if I had anything else to do. I also said I wanted to make some other changes regarding benefits. She forwarded my email along to someone else for the benefits but never acknowledged my name change follow up.
Is this normal?? Does it normally take awhile?

Not at all. Call, don’t email, and actually talk to a person.

MrsGatito: Does not sound normal to me. Email her again about the name change and only the name change. Be firm and tell her you want it done now. She’s just being lazy.

Okay, I kind of thought maybe she was being lazy or forgot. It’s been so busy at work the last few months, I was trying to give her the benefit of the doubt. I will follow up with her once again. Thanks bees.

MrsGatito: Forever because they keep messing it up. I pretty much gave up and figure my name won’t be right until I change jobs and start out fresh with a new HR.

took a couple of weeks for all the papers to be processed.

About a week if that and I work for a huge company

MrsGatito: I’ve spoken to our IT guy and I’ve told him I want it changed by the time I get back from my honeymoon! He keeps forgetting when my wedding is so every time I come back to work after a few days off he’s like “do you want me to change it now?” haha

Thanks everyone. I guess 5 months is pretty long then. I think I will wait until Monday to talk to her because I don’t want her putting it off until next week and forgetting about it again.
I should have followed up sooner but I forgot about it until about a month ago.

I’m really lucky where I work. There are over 100 people here but it’s super easy to talk to anyone, and everyone pretty much knows about any of the major life events happening with everyone else. Our HR lady changed it the monday after the wedding, while we were on our honeymoon. Our IT guy changed it as soon as we got back, and I requested the change.

I got married in December and submitted my paperwork in January when we went back to school (I’m a teacher). I finally got all my stuff changed about a month ago (email, etc). I work for a large school district so obviously a name change is not high on the priority list.

I got married over a year ago and my name change request still hasn’t processed.
I work in a huge bureaucracy, so I’m not shocked.

Immediately. I actually didn’t notify them for months cause I just didnt feel like dealing with, but they found out somehow and came to me and asked if I had gotten married and changed my name. I think I gave them my marriage certificate and it was updated in the system probably the next week.

MrsGatito: I work for a non profit and I AM the IT person even though it’s not in my job description. I’ll be changing my name myself when I return from the honeymoon…you should def call someone!

She sounds lazy, it is really not that difficult to change surname’s. Mine was done immediatly but it does help since I am in HR. Either way if/when someone submits all their documents I never take longer than a week to ensure everything is changed.
