We searched for every bit of 1.5 – 2 years, before we were even engaged. We had pretty specific requirements, a lot of it based on the style of home. DH was unwilling to really even consider a home that in a particular style.

We got serious in December-ish. Found a house in January and got preapproved. Our offer was accepted a few weeks ago, and now we are waititng for the bank to get done ordering the appraiser. We are expected to move in by end of March.

It varies greatly, but a lot of posts I’ve read on here a lot of gals said it only took a few months.

Started looking in July, put offer in November, closed in February. When we made the offer we asked for a 60 day closing because we were going out of the country for the holidyas. Asking for an extended closing might be an option for you if you find THE ONE in May or June. The One might be the first house you see this weekend or it could take dozens of properties and a few months. I would suggest maybe dropping by a few open houses to get a feel for what you might want but to hold off on actively house shopping until late March.

From the time we were pre-approved to the time we made an offer was about 3 weeks and then another 3 weeks before we closed. your pre-approval will only last a certain amount of time. I want to say after 30 days you will have preface another credit check and redo some of your paperwork. We were looking but not aggressively for about 5 months before we put our offer in.

We searched for a few months.  Once we found what we wanted, we were moved in within another couple of months.

So our process moved very quickly – we also have a lease until August but we were/are okay with breaking it.  Here’s our timeline.  We first started speaking to an agent (a family friend) on December 28th.  Got our paperwork together and went to the bank for pre-approval on Jan 28th.  Went to visit houses for the first time this past Saturday, Feb 9.  Loved a house we saw. Woke up and decided we had to have it.  And we are now under contract.  So about a little over two months. We are due to close mid-March, assuming all goes well.  But if we hadn’t found the house, we would have easily waited and continued our search.

In California here and bought in 2010.

Started looking in May and found “the one” in July and was able to move in by end of August.

My main problem was that I was shopping in the “diamond in the rough… bottom of the barrel” section. I would find a house I was interested in and by the time I would send a text to my agent, the house would already be pending/sold. The house I ended up getting had 8 other offers I had to compete with! But when you’re buying cheap, you have more competition.

Started looking in October, entered escrow in late November/early December (I don’t remember), closed escrow February 1st. I bought a foreclosure, so that’s why escrow took a little bit, but I hear short sales take even more time.

It really depends on what you’re looking for and how popular or rare it is. I found a 3 bedroom 2.5 bath condo in a nice association in a good area for a steal. So I jumped on it. You might find something right away, or it might take you a while.

We started looking and got pre-approved in January of last year, bought in February… Closed in late March and spent a month doing renovations while we ended our apartment lease, then moved in at the end of April.

We starting looking online in October/November.

Started going to actually see houses at the end of January.

And we made an offer on one this past Friday and by Saturday night, the house was ours!

Now we are scheduling inspections, that sort of thing.

My agent estimates we’ll close in mid-April.

Wow, you all are either really lucky or just way better at house-shopping than me! It took us 3 years of searching before we found a house we loved in a good school district priced within our budget. I am a little picky though….

It took us 10 months to find our home, but I’m so glad we didn’t rush into it.  We seriously LOVE our house and have zero buyer’s remorse.
