We started looking at rings the last couple of days in July, and he bought my ring in September. So pretty immediately. I won’t get it until next month, though. Boo!

We have been together 5 years. SO first brought up getting engaged in April but fell off about it until really lately. I suspect he is starting to save now that he has re-established his bank account. I suspect he will be save for the center stone first, purchase that, then save some more for the setting. This may take up to 6 months.

This is all speculatory. I know just going off my SO’s past financial habits.

Immediately after we decided we wanted to get engaged sometime in the next few months he started saving. He sacrificed so much to get me the ring of my dreams, I am so lucky ๐Ÿ™‚ Before he started saving for the ring he used to be able to get heaps of video games, cds and dvds every weekend, he couldn’t do that when saving for the ring!

ETA: He has been able to go back to his normal ways the past few months but now he is saving for our trip to the States in the summer ๐Ÿ™‚ (Northern hemisphere summer)

My Darling Husband never saved for a ring.  He bought the ring with money he already had saved in his general savings/investment fund.  So his spending on other extracuricular activities and hobbies never changed even though he was looking for a ring.  So don’t let your boyfriend’s spending habits discourage you.

He was already a big time money saver… so when he finally decided that he was going to buy it, he already had the money on hand. It still took a month or so for him to actually order it though because it is a big decision. I won’t see it until next year! ๐Ÿ˜›

Mr. 99 had been saving for a flat screen television, he decided to blow that on a far better investment……me! And then, when my Dad heard what he did, he bought him the flat screen anyway!

Mine didnt save, he just put it on a credit card and started paying it off. He knew he had a bonus at work coming up so when he was able to pay it off pretty fast. It was good because he didnt have to save up to get the ring and purpose he could purpose with the ring sooner then later.

He started to save when we started talking about it. Actually his tax return was the first installment into it. He finished the ring and proposed a year later, so a year is the answer to your question lol.

@Nona99:  That sounds like something my dad would do. ๐Ÿ™‚ That’s awesome!

Nona that is awesome!

Luckily H had the money in his checking already for my ring, and that’s how we paid for our awesome wedding and our new deck.  I guess he’d been looking ahead!  LOL

Yes, he did divulge how much he had saved to me prior to any of this.

@Meowkers:  Same here.

Darling Husband is a natural saver so he didn’t ever save specifically for a ring.

He was able to buy my ring once he made up his mind to buy it.  He never had to save up specifically for my  ring.
