I am trying to decide how many hours we might need to book our photographer for, and I don’t have a good gauge of how long photos take. So, how long did you spend before and/or after your ceremony doing photos of you with your bridal parties, families, each other, etc. I was thinking of maybe about 1 hour before the ceremony and 1.5 after… but is that enough for everything?

We did 1.5 hours before (getting ready, separate bridal party and family pics, no first look) and 1 hour after (combined bridal party and families, just bride and groom), and it was plenty of time for us. We did all of our pictures at our ceremony and venue locations. We did have 2 shooters, so that helped with the getting ready shots because one photographer shot me and girls getting dressed and one shot the groom and groomsmen getting ready at the same time.

It depends on how many different kinds of photos you want. I think that sounds sufficient. For our photos it took about 2 hours after the ceremony, and then they were at the reception all night (but that’s because they wanted to get midnight toast and were friends with a groosman). So 2.5 hours should be good to get all your formal photos done.

I’m thinking of getting 6 hrs total with a schedule like this (note: our ceremony/reception is in the same place):
4pm photog arrives- does FI/groomsman and me/BMs
6-730 family photos, whole bridal party, me/fi(then-husband!)
8:30 first dance, father/daughter dance, mother/son dance, anniversary dance
9pm cut the cake– more dancing
10pm photog leaves
11pm reception over.
does that sound too cramped? We only have the venue from 530-11.

Oh I should also specify… I don’t mean “getting ready” type photos because I don’t really want those. 🙂
