ImaStarr: I’ve not had kids and I think I had cramps on the day of insertion if that. But… I did then have very painful cramps during my period, to the point where I couldn’t speak. Sorry, but just wanted to pre-warn you.

ImaStarr: No it wasn’t but when I hear that’s common for them to do. It could well be why, do you normally cramp during your period?

i have no kids and inital cramps lasted like 2 days but for about 6 months i would get the random, stabbing cramps that had me doubled over!!! lasted for seconds but so painful.

I have the Skyla as well – I don’t normally get cramps, and mine was not inserted during my period (of course it came the week before my appointment!), but I think mine lasted about 3, maybe 4 days. Midol really helped take the edge off.  Sometimes I still get random crampiness, but nothing too bad.

I had cramps for around 14 days (!) after insertion.  I had mine removed after 5 months because my periods were is heavy I became anaemic, I hope you have a better experience than I did!

No kids, and the initial cramps lasted a few days. For about the first 8 months I had really terrible period cramps and sometimes random cramping from moving the wrong way because I could feel my IUD. My heating pad is definitely my bff when I get my period now, but the cramps are easing off back to what I got pre IUD.

ImaStarr:  My cramps went away within 30 min after insertion of the Paragard copper IUD. I guess I just got lucky. I’m nulliparous and had it inserted during my period.

My first period after insertion was very crampy and painful, so I spent most of that week on the couch with a hot water bottle. I also got random cramping for a few days at a time I think a couple of times over the first two months. And the random cramping was weird because it always seemed to come at a certain time of day. But I honestly had less cramping overall than I thought I would.

For me the cramps never stopped. Walking, moving around, bending over all would cause horrible cramping, which would then cause spotting. I had to wear panty liners every day and could only really sit around to keep the cramps from starting.

Put up with that for about 7 months before I finally had it removed

I have the Skyla and haven’t had kids and my cramping was pretty consistent for the first day, and then on and off for about a week.  If I moved around a lot I would start to cramp (exercising was painful for a good three weeks), but in general the worst of it was that first day.

ImaStarr:  I have never had kids either. The day I got my Mirena in I drove myself home and even went to the grocery store for a bit. I took off work since that was recommended but I wouldn’t have needed to. It felt like regular menstrual cramps all day and by the next day I was totally fine.

However for like up to a week, I felt very *aware* of it. Like I could feel it in there. That goes away eventually too lol

ImaStarr:  well my IUD was horrible. Everything about it. I kept it in for a year before I removed it and the exprience was HELL. My cramps remained for about 6 months consistently then after that maybe for a 2 week period of the month.

This is my 2nd round of the Mirena. The first time I had itin 4.5 years then had it replaced with another Mirena. When they inserted it the pain was indescribable but that’s not what youre asking lol I guess I had prett bad cramps for about a week. I was not on my period when they inserted it. I have 2 children but they were both delivered by c-section. After the bad cramps were over I still had some crampage whenever I had sex. That lasted about another week. I do not have any cramps when I get my period though.
