I’m just curious. DH asked me to marry him the same day, actually less than an hour after he bought my ring. My proposal story is… well, there is no proprosal story. We went to several jewelry stores until we found exactly what I wanted. And then it went in the box and in the bag, and off we drove to have dinner at one of our favorite restraunts. He asked me in the car, in the parking lot. No down on one knee, no waiting until we were in the restraunt. I am still kind of disappointed about the proposal, but then, my husband is a very practical man, not romantic in the least.
Anyway, I was wondering how long the rest of you had to wait.

Loribeth: My FI purchased the ring in November and proposed on Christmas 🙂
I think it’s adorable when they don’t (or can’t!) wait but I’m pretty sure he was PLANNING on Christmas so he waited!

My FI purchased the ring on a Saturday and proposed the following Tuesday. So less than a week. They had to resize the ring, even though the store did that same day he waited to pick it up at a time I would not be with him. At that time he lived out of town and worked in town one day a week so weekends were always our time together. I would have suspected something if he had gone back to the store Saturday etc…and he wanted it to be a bit of a surprise even though I picked out the ring.

I waited a month. FI was the best man in his best friend’s wedding, and I requested that he wait until after their wedding. I knew he had the ring because we had picked it out together.
A week after our friends got married, we were in Paso Robles (central CA wine country) for my birthday. He proposed at our favorite winery. I was proposed to in a parking lot, also. 🙂 he wanted to ask privately and that was pretty much the best option. It makes for an interesting story, so don’t be disappointed that the proposal wasn’t what you originally had in mind.

I waited a year to actually get my ring. We decided together that since I wanted such a large stone that it was something we would have to save for. I wore a sterling silver band until 2 weeks ago : ) I have to say it was well worth the wait to get what I really wanted.

He bought my setting in October, the diamond in November, and proposed Dec 21.

It was about a month (had to wait for the ring to arrive after it was ordered).

I put 1 month because that’s about how long he had it, but given that I had no idea it was coming and wasn’t expecting a proposal for at least another year I can’t really say I was waiting 🙂

Loribeth: Haha. Mine is pretty similar. My husband had been looking at rings online for awhile and one afternoon he randomly showed me one he had been eyeing and asked whether I liked it. It was a gorgeous 1.23 carat princess solitaire and of course I loved it. So the very next day he ordered it. We had to wait two weeks after ordering until it finally arrived. He gave it to me the second I got home from work that day. He has very little self control when it comes to giving gifts (to me especially). It was wonderful!

Loribeth: My ring was purchased 2 years before he proposed. The delay was caused by deaths in the family (we both lost our fathers to cancer during that time), so I wasn’t really “waiting,” but we were both dealing with a lot of medical and financial issues with our families.

My fiance ordered my ring the Friday before Christmas. He was so excited about it that he told me he’d done it when he got home that night! The next morning he couldn’t contain himself any more and showed it to me online, and we decided not to tell anyone until the ring came in (two days after Christmas). The complicating factor was that my parents were visiting for Christmas from out of state, and came to town two days before Christmas, so we were going to try and have HUGE family get-togethers without telling anyone! That so did not happen 🙂 So, Friday, he picked up the ring on his way home from work and handed me the box told me to open it, and went to the bathroom. I didn’t – I waited for him to come out. So, I waited about a week after it was ordered, but no time after he had it in his posession.

Loribeth: lol 0 he didnt wait for the ring.. he was actually getting the ring from his grandma, who lives some where else. we left on our trip to hawaii and it hadnt arrived yet. he thought maybe he should wait till we got back to ask but im glad he didnt. so he proposed with a token hawaiian ring that fit on my pinkie. and he let me know about the real ring afterwards.

We went to pick the ring out together, and were told it would be about a month to get it due to sizing (yay for my snausage fingers!). They actually ended up being able to resize it in store and helped my fiance surprise me with it about a week and a half later.

FI ordered my ring in October 2012, brought it home in November, and proposed in July 2013. I think he waited so long because we had already decided to get married in 2015 and he didn’t want to be engaged for two and a half years. He also planned a very romantic proposal at my parents cabin on the beach with fireworks.

Three weeks. He had no idea how he wanted to ask me, and about a week after he got it, we decided to go to VT for a long weekend, so he just waited until then. I should add that I had no idea he had it – I knew he had looked at rings, but I didn’t know he actually had it in his posession.
