My photographer has an 8 hour package, and then each additional hour costs extra. I know I want them there for the announcements, dinner and some dancing… but do I really care about getting pictures of people getting more and more drunk throughout the night? I don’t need professional pictures of my friends dancing like crazy, I know that they will take plenty! Does it make sense to have them stay for only an hour or so of the dancing after dinner? If you have already had your wedding, what did you do and would you recommend it?

FutureMrsGG: I also have an 8 hour package from my photographer. I’m planning on having him start around noon and clueing up around 8pm. The dinner starts around 6 and the main things (speech, first dances, cake cutting) will be done by then.

We had an eight hour package but could see that we were going to run over pretty quickly. Our group was super social and it was hard to get everything done quickly. Dinner was on time, but the breaks between dessert/speeches and 1st dance/garter/bouquet toss were longer than expected. During the evening my photographer gave us a heads up that we needed to speed things up or add more time. We ended up agreeing for them stay longer and they charged up for the extra hour or two they stayed.
If you can garauntee you’ll stay on schedule I’d say don’t worry about it but even me who is a stickler for timelines ran over :/ No one was drunk yet so all of our photos of the party were still very classy and just of the important stuff. I wish I didn’t have to pay extra and that we could have stayed on time but it is what it is. Everyone had a blast and I’m happy we weren’t rushed.

we had umlimited coverage for our wedding, but i think we had her stay until around 9:00. just long enough to get the important stuff- cake, bouquet toss, speechesm etc. and she got plenty of candid/dancing pics in that time also.

We originally wanted an 8hr package but our photographers 10hr package came with a lot more for almost the same price so we’re doing the 10 hr. We’re having here from 12:30-10:30pm. We’re doing a first look at 1pm, ceremony at 4pm, sparkler send off around 10:30pm. If we weren’t having her do the send off then I would have just had her for first dances/cake cutting/toasts/bouquet toss , I don’t really want pictures of my guests dancing either.

We had an all day photography package and some of my favorite pictures are from later on in the evening. I think she ended up staying until 11:00 or 11:30 (ended at 12:00).
