I knew my fiance an unusually long tme - fifteen years before he proposed! We met in 6th grade, and he proposed at age 26! :) Granted, we didn't date that whole time, but we did know eachother that long!
How long did you know your FI before he proposed?
We had known each other almost 12 years when he proposed. We didn't date that whole time--in fact we were friends for almost 9 years before we got together. We met at my freshman orientation for college and became friends. I don't think I could have ever guessed that he was my future husband when I met him. :)
Wow, that's quite a history! My husband proposed about 3.5 years into meeting, 3 years into dating. I think he would've liked to do it sooner, though. :)
we met in may 2005 at a job. we totally had the hott's for each other but we were both in relationships at the time. 2 years later we started dating, and 2 years after that he proposed.
I knew him for a little over 6 years before he proposed, but we only dated for 1 year and 3 months of that. I guess we just had to wait a long time before the timing was right!
We'd known each other for three months when we decided to get engaged, and he proposed two months later. When you know, you know. 
i knew him for 6 months (after we first met). but he knew my online persona aka my personal blog for a year! 
@august - we grew up in the same home town...so I can't remember exactly when I first met him, but it was probably around age 12. we were in class together at age 15 (biology, same lab bench, big crush!). And he proposed when I was 28. So between 13 and 15 years! Well worth the wait : )
He proposed two years and two months after we started dating and three years after we met!
We knew each other for about 10 months before he proposed. We tried to wait a year before we got engaged but we didn't quite make it!

Almost 10 years, and we were dating for almost 6 of those years.
We've known each other for 10 years, have been dating for 7. He proposed a few months after 6 years of dating. We'll be getting married on our 8-year dating anniversary.
We got engaged about a year after we first started dating. We will only be together a little over a year and a half by the time of the wedding.
We started dating our freshman year of college in 98, sooooo yes that makes it 11yrs.
He bought my ring on our 6 month anniversary, and were officially engaged five days later when it came in.
We knew each other for about 8 years, and were dating for just shy of 7 of them.
Let me think...we'd been dating for 2 years and 12 days when he proposed, and we'd known each other for 5 months before that, so...roughly 2 and a half years.
I knew him for seven years, but we only started dating 2 years and 4 months before he proposed. It was perfect for us, but I'm so glad he waited to date me until I was ready for a relationship!
He proposed 2.5 years after we met, which is a month or so longer than when we started dating.
My FI & I started dating a week after we met, So there was 4 1/2 years of knowing him before he popped the questions :)
We were dating about 7.5 mos before he proposed, and we had met only about a week before we started dating so, less than 8 mos.
I knew FI about almost three years before he proposed. We worked together before I moved away and then started dating when I moved back home eight months later.
He proposed 4 years after meeting and 1.5 years after dating! :)

I think I set the record so far- 14 years! We dated off and on for 6, then I became seriously involved with someone else for 8 years. We're back together for good this time. I just say we took a break...
We talked seriously about marraige after 3 weeks, so I win for shortest time haha!
He hasn't officially proposed yet, but started planning our wedding after about 3 months.
We met in July. Started dating in November and got engaged in March. When we get married it will be about 2 years after our first meeting.
We met last May (I was dating a friend of his at the time), starting dating in July and got engaged in December. By the time we're married, we'll have been together for nearly two years.

We met on a trip to the snow while he was home from Iraq for his R & R. We knew eachother for 9 days when I went to the airport with his mother to see him off and he told me he loved me. Less than two weeks into his being gone he told me he was going to marry me. :))) It's been almost 6 months and we talk 2 to 3 times every day and I write letters to him multiple times a week (he makes my heart feel like pure poetry). I'm meeting him on the other side of the country when he comes back home in August. He is the absolute love of my life. (::sigh::)
