I owned my house for 5 1/2 years before selling it. I bought it planning on it being my “forever home”. I just sold it this past August to move 2 hours away to live with my boyfriend (now FI). My FI has owned his house for 5 years and we are going to list it summer 2016 and “see what happens”.

I’ve been living in my first purchased home for the past 3.5 years while in a postgrad training program. When my program is over next year, I’m going to be relocating to a new job. Right now I’m torn over whether to sell or rent it out when the time comes.

I lived in my first home for 7 years. I still own it and rent it out because the neighborhood went downhill and the home lost a lot of value. Blargh.

Unfortunately, we only lived in our house for 1.5 years before we ended up having to rent it because my husband couldn’t find a job where we lived.  We are still renting it now.  I wish we had sold it right away because I’m sick of holding onto it still.

candy11:  We’ve been in our 1st home for 6 years. I think we’ll be here a little longer. We bought a much larger home than the average 1st time buyer, so we could technically be here forever and raise a family. Many of my friends 1st homes were starter homes, and most of them have alreayd outgrown them. We had moved a couple of times before buying, and I was determined that whatever we bought we’d be in for a while. That being said, we really want a custom home and so I see us selling and building within the next few years (hopefully!).

We bought our place in Nov 2012, but didn’t move in until Mar 2013 as we had renters who had signed a lease til then. We then moved in and have been here since. We plan to be here another two years or so and then move overseas hopefully.

candy11:  We have a condo in a college town.  We knew we’d move when DH finished grad school. We lived in it for 4 years.  The housing market in the area hasn’t come back yet so we’re renting it out.  However, because it is a college town and in a good location we may continue to rent it out for the long run.  We’ve just heard so many horror stories about being landlords, so who knows!

Just bought the first house.  But lots of room, excellent schools, good walking area, no HOA – there’s really no need to move any time soon.  House can easily handle 6 kids, so we’re set since we’re talking 4 at most.

candy11:  We have not sold our home yet but I’m thinking perhaps next year we will. We will have been in our home for a little over 3 years by that time.

We want to upgrade before babies come along…I think? Well we’re still tossing aroudn ideas.
