- Wedding: July 2014
A couple of weeks! I knew I was moving out of state shortly and o wanted to go dress shopping with my mom so we went shopping a couple of weeks after I got engaged.
ETA: I bought it over a year before our wedding. I don’t think we even had a date picked at that point.
I got my dress about a year before my wedding (which is Saturday). I bought it the Sunday before Hurricane Sandy.
One year and one day!
I got it about 9 months before my wedding.
I ordered my dress 10 months before the wedding, it took three months to come in after that
We set a firm date the last weekend in November, and I bought my dress in the third week of December! We got married in May.
Thanks every once for your input 🙂
just trying to figure out the average waiting time to buy a dress
I got engaged mid-May and bought the dress two weeks later. The wedding is in November so this was around 5.5 months before the wedding.
Officially purchased it about a year before. I found the dress about 6 months before that but waited so I could check out a few more salons and be sure. I choose an Italian gown that takes 10 months to come in!! I’d say as long as you have a long engagement it doesn’t hurt to start looking because you will have the most chooses!!! Most foreign designers take longer, but any domestic down can be gotten in 6 months. You can also ask them if they will get any new dresses by the time you absolutely would have to order. Usually designers only have new lines about twice a year
I went out the week after I got engaged, and bought my dress one month after that. 1 year and 3 months before my wedding. I waited so long for the proposal that I couldn’t wait to try on dresses, and I already knew what I wanted 🙂
I ordered mine 9 months prior, was told that was really short notice ( what?!) and it came in 8 months later…
I understand what your saying lol
When I heard that some brides purchase their dress a year before the wedding, I was like “WHHHHAAAAAAT???”
I would forget what the dress looked like if I did that but supposedly thats the best time to purchase your dress. Im guessing so there will be plenty of time to have alterations and things finished up
@cmoest: I bought mine 14 months before my wedding (didn’t mean to, it just happened), and it came in within a month, I was shocked. Also, they told me I had to pick it up, I didn’t want to store that thing for that long but apparently they didn’t want to either!
