hello.. new here! About a month and a half ago my SO and I went engagement ring shopping and picked a ring that we both loved and was in-budget. I know that he didn’t buy that specific ring, but used the details of that ring to shop around for the perfect ring. He said the proposal could happen anytime between now and next summer- but I NEED to express my happiness somewhere! I don’t want to tell family or friends and take away from the engagement announcement.
Am I crazy for being so excited? i can’t stop looking at my hand and getting so excited to see a ring on it, and announce to our family and friends that we want to spend our lives together.
I have found it SO HARD to think about ANYTHING else since we went ring shopping! Since he gave me such a long timeline, am I jumping the gun? Everytime he reaches in his pocket I hold my breath! Every nice date I think it will happen.
Anyone else have a similar experience?

I guess we didn’t really discuss time lines after looking at rings it was just assumed it would be “soon”. We looked at rings about 2 months before he proposed. However, I ended up going with him to actually buy the ring. He proposed a week later the day he picked up the ring. My Fiance said there was no way he was waiting even a day after picking up the ring.
It is hard to think about anything else!! I would just go online and look at pictures of the ring I picked. Congratulations on finding a ring you love! I hope we get to congratulate you on a proposal/engagement soon too!
Welcome to the Bee!

@shellybee13: I honestly don’t understand why there have to be such strict timelines for these things. Like if people already plan on getting married and are adults, why can’t they just be engaged?
I didn’t pick out my ring because I was given Mother-In-Law ring.

I brought up engagement at the end of July last year and he said he had thought about it as well. In August we were at the mall and decided to look at rings and ended up buying the perfect one that day! He waited two (antagonizingly long!) months before he proposed. I was hoping we would do it on our cruise in January but I bugged him so much he decided to just do it in October.

I’m in the waiting boat too….he bought the ring at the end of May and he picked it up in June and I know the proposal wasn’t coming until late summer…now it’s looking like early Fall because he didn’t talk to my parents at my family reunion and we won’t see them again until Labor Day lol. The anticipation is killin me! So I’d say about 4.5 months.

OMG…my FH waited a while to give me my ring after I showed him pics of what I liked. I think it’s because he wanted to buy it in full and not have any payment plans. He’s not a fan of credit cards either. So it took me 6 months to get it after I picked it out! He has a great paying job, but my ring is a solitaire on the larger size and he needed the time to save up to buy it. I was going crazy though; waiting, dropping subtle hints (although I’m sure he would argue that my hints were more like obvious whining, LOL). But let me tell you that the wait was sooooo worth it. Now I’m blinging everywhere, LOL.
So be patient, good things come to those who wait. Once you get it, you’ll forget the time you waited for it. You’ll just be taking selfies of you and your ring, LOL.

10 months. We are long distance, he was making payments. So from the time he had ring in hand to proposal is more like 4 months.

@shellybee13: My husband waited over 2 years before he formally proposed to me.

we picked it out together one day, he went back about bought it about a month later when I was out of town, then it sat IN HIS CAR (What was he thinking??!?!) for about a month before he gave it to me.

@shellybee13: We are picking it out this month and I’ll get it around Christmas. SO MUCH WAITING!!!

We first went shopping in September so he could get an idea of what I liked and the cost. He was in the middle of buying a house at that time, and I knew he wasn’t ready to make a purchase yet. He ended up ordering the actual ring sometime in January and picked it up a few days before he proposed on Valentine’s Day.

He proposed before he had the ring. It was about two weeks after he ordered it

We bought the ring on December 2nd, and he proposed on January 16th.

Thanks everyone! Good to know I’m not the only one getting anxious waiting 🙂 I guess my anxiety comes from the fact that we both want to get married in october 2014 (yes, we already talked about it) because we want to be married before we buy a house about 4-6 months later. I am stressed that vendors will be booked by the time he proposes, but I feel silly planning without a ring. I have been browsing casually so I have an idea of what I want, to make planning easier.
Am i being selfish? Thanks!
