I just talked to my mom today and my dress came in!! I didn't order it online though. I bought it a bridal shop in the beginning of November. So about 4 months it took to come in. Sorry I can't help with any online info, just thought I'd let you know a timeframe if you ordered from a shop. Another option might be to go to a place that sells sample dresses which you buy and take with you that day. Unfortunately, I'm not in your area so I don't have any names or places to recommend.
Buy a sample dress from glamourcloset its here in CA.
One in San Francisco and another in Los Angeles.
I bought mine at a bridal shop in Fullerton in November and it came in early this week. So about 4 months just like they said it would :)
I went the usual dress route and went into a bridal store and found the one. It took exactly 6months before I got to try it on. Honestly, I am terrified of buying something so important (it's high up on my list) over th internet. Especially after seeing a post about someone buying a dress over the internet for a great deal and NOT getting it OR their money back. I would just be careful and make sure you're covered.
I'm doing a custom dress, but a friend of mine ordered her dress from JCrew and it was gorgeous on her. I'm super freaked out by the idea of online bridalwear, but I have ordered BM dresses online from both JCrew and Ann Taylor and they seem to work pretty much as their normal ordering works so if that's your style might be worth checking out since they have a strong reputation to back them. The other nice thing is that you don't have to really guess at sizing...their wedding wear is sized the same as their normal wear so you can even go into the store and figure out what size you are before ordering.
My experience with many different bridalwear designers (all as a BM) is that their sizing is crazy and totally inconsistent. So if you order a dress online from a more traditional bridal designer I'd suggest making sure you have enough time for alterations. Even online you should just be able to call the store and check on shipping and arrival dates (if no one answers the phone beware!). But before I went the custom route, most places said 4-6 months for regular wedding dresses.
I ordered my dress from a bridal shop today (yay!) and it's due in June 30th...
When I ordered it in February, they said four to six months. A couple of weeks ago, I got a postcard saying it'll be in the end of June. So about four months. I can't wait!
They told me 4 months to be on the safe sied and as luck would have it, the designer already had one made in my saize so it arrived at my bridal shop in less then 2.
I ordered my Maggie last June, and it finally came in last Friday. 8 and a half months! I originally had a mid-February ship date, but it didn't ship until March.
I ordered mine in October 2008 and it is schedualed to come in in April so about 6 months
When I ordered mine they told me it would take up to 6 months to arrive. It actually arrived in about 3 months, which was kind of exciting.
Eight months to wait for it to come in -- and now, I'm waiting until it's the appropriate time to start fittings...end of April!
I ordered my Maggie in October from a bridal shop. I called yesterday and the lady said they were expecting it in the first or second week of April. She said that Maggie Sottero dresses often take more time to get in (other people have this problem too?). It'll take almost 7 months all together.
If you are interested in looking online, I have heard good things about www.houseofbrides.com and www.bridalonlinestore.com. Both of them have good prices and can get the dress to you pretty quickly. Good luck!
Sample sample sale in Santa Barbara. You can take it home with you.
I bought mine off the rack and walked out the door with it! No alterations necessary since it's a Maggie (hooray corsets!) and I'm almost 6 feet tall, so there's no need to shorten it! No dress stress for this bride
Mine took 5 months to come in. They usually advise ordering 6 to 9 months in advance. I think that if you go much below 6 months, you might get hit with a rush fee.
I got mine from DB right before Xmas and it came in the end of Feb, so about 2 1/2 months. I think it all depends on if your a common size, and the time of year and amount of orders they have. Good luck!
The day I bought mine I took it home... so I'm probably not the best person to ask :)
I've had it in my closet for 6 months now, just waiting for may!
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: tahoma; font-size: 13px">What great responses! Jennycv- I went to that glamourcloset website, and I am SO excited to go check that place out now! It's not horribly far from me, and they even have a big sale going on! Woohoo!
Just an update- I officially got engaged on Tuesday, and my dress is already in my closet! I went to look today and found THE one at David's Bridal. :)
I'm having mine made, but from measurements to final fitting, it is supposed to only take three months. :)
driftslikesmoke - Thanks! I'd post the photos of me in it, but I'd rather wait until after the wedding just in case someone happens to cross this page before then. ;) But it's David's Bridal Style: T9568
I ordered mine in January, they said it would come in by April. Then they call me two weeks after I order and said it would be in by June, i was getting stressed about it, they seemed like they were yanking me around. However...for some reason I received it in March! But getting it tailored is another story. Looks like it may be ready in July!
I ordered mine in early November and they told me to order it "rush" because I was having extra length added, and they didn't want it to be late for my July wedding. They said that with the rush it would take 4-6 months, and I got it in 5 months. They probably just said that to get me to order it... I LOVE my dress though, so I'm not going to complain!
I ordered mine in early January and it is supposed to come in at the end of this month - I cannot wait!

Hey everyone,
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-weight: bold">I'm curious about how long it took you to get your dress before any fittings began. The dress, while important, is not at the top of my list of priorities, so I'm preparing for an off-the-rack deal or whatever else will be quicker (Boy and I may end up with a 5 month engagement period). Any info or words of wisdom about getting a great dress quickly would be wonderful! Also, if you ordered yours online, let me know how your experience was and how long it took to get it. Thanks!
