What are you getting?  Custom orders?  Stock bands?

FI and I both got ours online (Etsy, Overstock) and had them in a week.  But they’re plain bands that didn’t need customizing.

I inquired about a custom band also, and that seller said it would take approx 6 weeks, but that the timeline increases over the holidays because she has so many gift orders.

@SouthernBee33:  We ordered ours from a jeweller at about 3 months out, and they told us it would take 6 weeks. His came early, mine came at around 5-6 weeks but they had ordered the WRONG ring (!!) even though we had ordered a customized band (converted a half eternity ring to full eternity) and so they had to order mine again. They rushed the order and it came just in time. So it was definitely good that we went ring shopping a bit early. If you know what you want, I say start the process earlier rather than later, especially if you think you’ll be ordering a custom ring or a made-to-order piece.

@SouthernBee33:  Well, I’m not wearing mine yet, but I am pleased with the quality.  I have a 2mm 14k band, so it’s very thin and lightweight, but that’s exactly what I wanted.  Because I wasn’t getting something with stones I wasn’t particularly worried.  I brought it to a BM jewelry store to compare with what they had and it was very comparable and about half of the price.

My “rule” for Etsy, particularly with jewelry, is to only buy from shops with real-person reviews, fair return policies, and that are US/Canada based so it’s not too much of a hassle if I do need to return something.

@SouthernBee33:  I would go ahead and get on it now just to get a start on looking. I got DH’s wedding band a month and a half before the wedding and I feel like I only picked it because there was a time crunch. We only went to 1 store. I wish I would have taken more time to look for it because getting down to 2 months before, you are going to be very preoccupied with other wedding stuff.

Ours only took about 2 weeks to come in. However, I wouldn’t wait until the last minute, just go ahead and get it out of the way early.

@SouthernBee33:  we ordered our bands 2 weeks before the wedding. My jeweler said 2-4 weeks is plenty of time. So, you definitely have tons of time!

We did a custom band for me at the jeweler we got my ring from. We were told 8 weeks. I think it took less than three. FH picked a stock piece we could have taken home the same day. Better to order too soon than too late, though.

Like wedding dresses, many rings come from China and all the factories are closed in February, so keep that in mind when ordering — see if they’re coming from elsewhere, or if you need to take that into account.

My ring took about a month to come in.
