The other day my hubby and I saw some acquaintances and they referred to us as newlyweds (we've been married for almost 5 months).  Later the hubby said he considere us newlyweds for only a few weeks after the wedding, and that we weren't newlyweds anymore.
I guess I planned on considering myself a newlywed for at least a year...I certainly still feel new to this marriage thing!  I'm not sure if I'll consider myself a newlywed after a year, but I might.

So hive, what do you think? How long does "newlywed-hood" last? a few months, weeks years?  until you have kids or someone else in your group gets married?

I figure until your 1st anniversary.  I think it's likely we may no longer feel like newlyweds by that point, or may still feel like it long after, but that's my standard.

I agree, I'll probably stop referring to us as newlyweds once we hit the 1 year mark after we're married!

You're a newlywed for one year. At his rate, your husband will probably think of you two as an old married couple by next week. ;)

We've been married over a year, and I still feel like a newlywed.

I agree with most posts.  I will consider myself a newlywed for about 1 year.

I was thinking maybe 6 months, but it seems that the consensus is a year.  I couldn't believe it the other day when I realized we're almost at 6 months!

I would consider us newlyweds until we hit our 1 year anniversary.

We did up until our first wedding anniversary.  The day after, actually, I was like, "I still want to be a newlywed!"  LOL  We have a cousin getting married tomorrow, so I think we will finally be officially passing the newlywed crown off to them.  Now that I think about it, it could have been cute to actually do something like that to pass from cousin to cousin!

I always heard a year was the "newlywed" time frame. If you have a baby within that year though, I think maybe cuts it shorter. The newly mommy and daddy role surpasses that of newly husband and wife heh

I thought you were a newlywed for one year, until your first anniversary. I like being a newlywed, though sometimes I think to call my husband "husband" we should have been married longer :-)

I think a year fits.  I felt really settled very quickly, and I don't really feel like a newlywed most of the time.  For me, that's a good thing though.

I have always heard that it is a year, but I voted for 2 years because I want to stretch it out a little :)

I think a year is the norm... it gives you a chance to go through a year of firsts as a married couple:  Christmas, birthdays, wedding season, etc.

Not sure why, but I think of us as newlyweds until we reach our one-year anniversary. Maybe because it takes a full year to have a first Christmas together, first Halloween together, etc.?

It feels odd to hear people call my husband and I newlyweds. We've weathered so many ridiculous things being together 8 years before the wedding. Even though it's only been 5 1/2 months since the wedding, I feel like we've been married forever. I think anything under a year for sure is a newlywed, but it's all what feels right for you. Some people think a year, two years, two months... It's whatever you feel happy with. :)

I voted under 2 years because I really feel like a newlywed still!!  I guess it's a good way to feel, right? Hopefully that won't change when we have a baby!
