@DazedConfusedEtc:  Well, my ring isn’t custom, we bought it straight out of the case. Got it the same day. So it all depends. He might even have set things in motion already and is just waiting for the ring to come in. Men can be tricky. Just be excited! Your wait is almost over!

@DazedConfusedEtc:  as far as i know he’s never even looked. but he is working really hard right now. it depends on what hints you’ve sent, what you really want. me, i’d love a canadian diamond. so, i know at least $1300 or more. i also said, nothing rfeally expensive, like the $8000 one he pointed out, jokingly i hope, lol. that money can go elsewhere. still want to elope, or have just close friends, or family which would be around 20-25 people, lol

I guess it depends on how much money your SO makes and how much he can set aside to buy the ring.

I picked out the ring myself, and once he actually decided to buy the ring it only took him a few weeks to save up the money, but my ring was only $700. He bought it in May and still has it hidden somewhere, so I’m just a little bit on edge about it, lol.

FI went shopping with a budget in mind and a style in mind from a specific place so that aspect didn’t take long (I think he went one or two other places just to browse.)  However, once he decided to have it made he went through 3 appointments to pick out a diamond after not liking the first few they showed him.  So that took 2-3 weeks since it took them a few days to get each set in on consignment. Then it took 5 weeks to actually make the ring (which was rushed to make it in time for a trip we had.)

All this said, if he bought a stone online and brought it to a jeweler to have it set it could take WAY less time. Most of FIs time was spent picking the stones, so it depends on how your man wants to go.

Remember also that a lot of guys don’t know that a lot of rings are custom made- my friend’s FI thought you would walk in and just buy one for virtually any ring. He was apparently quite surprised when he learned that they have to order one in a specific size 😉

Technically speaking I’m sure you could buy one within 10 minutes, but that’s probably not wise. 😛  It really depends on how in-depth he plans on researching and shopping around. I think my DH took a weekend to do it.

FI and I looked for rings 1.5 years before he proposed, so we knew what rings we both liked. He actually looked seriously with his mom around xmas time, but didn’t buy anything, and then in June he got my ring and proposed a few days after he got it. It took 2 weeks to order

you should def go to a jewlery store and size your finger! that’s what i did

My fiance had my ring custom made and it took about a month for it to be ready.

We were walking around the mall shopping when I jokingly nudged him towards a jewelry store and he said “well, let’s go look at least” much to my surprise as he wasn’t planning to propose until the next year. We looked at four, picked the best one, walked out of the store with it. Your guy could do it the day before proposing if he wanted to. It takes a matter of minutes.

My timeline is a little off because I picked out my ring and I was particular. I did a ton of research because I really really enjoyed learning about diamonds and I took all of my new knowledge and worked with a jeweler sourcing in the perfect stone for me. We’d go every 2-3 weeks or so and look at the stones he brought in so from first visit to him actually picking the ring up it took about 3 months (which included 3 weeks to have it made). I do realize I was extremely extra though so I’m sure a normal person could do it in wayyyy less time lol. I say don’t worry!

We decided to shop one weekend. I found the setting I wanted. He went in on Tuesday and picked the stone and ring. It took four weeks for the ring to come in from the designer.
