I read on my BC pill instructions that after I stop the pill, I should use some other type of contraceptive method until my cycles get regular again.

    1) How much time does that take (I'm on Alesse)?

    2) Does anyone know why we have to wait for cycles to be regular again? Would there be difficulty getting pregnent, or problems with the foetus?

    Thanks!!

I've heard it can take up to 6 months to be regular.  Lots of people get pregnant right after stopping BC and the babies are fine.  I think you need to worry with things like DepoProvera more than the pill and getting pregnant.

    Thanks!

Any side effects from stopping the pill that I should know about?

I would talk to your doctor about your options.  Some physicians are ok with you trying to conceive right after you stop BC and some suggest waiting a period of time.  The amount of time it takes to become regular again depends on the person.  Some people stop BC and right away they are back to their previous cycle and for some it takes longer.  Some medications, like DepoProvera can take take significantly longer than an oral medication that you take daily.

When I stopped the pill for a few months, I had horrible headaches.  Plus the return of cramps and painful periods.
