I don't think it depends on the state so much as the city or town. Larger more metropolitan areas will take longer, and the smaller towns will get it to you in about two weeks (which is considered quick). I asked our officiant this same question, and this was her response.
I would give it a month before you make any calls.
Actually I called and am glad I did... apparently they never got it from the church! So now I am calling the church to see what happened... had to leave a voice mail... am I married or not?? LOL.
The county I'm in takes up to six weeks. The county we're getting married in takes only about two they said. Depends on how busy I guess? that's why I'm taking it down there myself and not waiting for it to be mailed.
