A few days before the wedding I opened a bottle and there’s about half left. It’s been sitting in the fridge. It’s been in there for over a month. Is it still good to drink? I’m having company on Friday and I’m wondering if I should serve it.

@MrsGatito: After a month I wouldn’t serve it to guests. I’d probably try drinking it myself, though. Otherwise, you could maybe use it to make a homemade salad dressing, or put it in a main dish or something?

@MrsGatito: Ugh. No. An open bottle of wine (that hasn’t been vacuum sealed again) is only good for 2 days, MAYBE 3. Please don’t serve this or drink it yourself. The only thing it MIGHT be good for at this point is vinegar for a salad dressing.
I think I’d just pour it out.

@MrsGatito: No way, I would toss it. If mine isn’t gone within a week or so (very, very rare) I get rid of it. Taste it first, but I can’t imagine that it will be good. You can cook with it like the PP said, or make salad dressing.

You could probably cook with it, but I wouldn’t serve it by itself!

No way!!! I wouldnt go past 2 days!!

Well it wouldn’t hurt you or anything but I’m guessing it’s not going to taste the same. I wouldn’t serve it, but you can certainly try a taste to see how it is if you want. Usually the rule is 3 days though I think some might last up to a week.
Oh, don’t throw it out though, I’d save it and use it to cook with.

No, don’t drink it. And invest it a vacuum sealer if you don’t normally drink a whole bottle at once. I have a cheapo one since my husband doesn’t drink wine, so I’ll have a bottle open for a week or so before I finish it.

probably last a week. you can taste it and drink it your self.
why don’t you cook with it and use it in whatever dish you are going to serve to your guests.

Agreed with PP, after a week it’s nasty (I’ve tried). I try to drink up a bottle within 2-3 days max.

@MrsGatito: Usually I’ll drink it up to 2 weeks after it’s opened if it’s been in the fridge with a topper in it. I usd to have a vacuum sealer but I really didn’t notice any difference with it. However, I am fully aware that generally wines “go bad” within a few days of opening so I would never serve it to anyone else.. I just don’t care that much about my food/drinks being past expiration unless they taste funky…

The opened wines last for months in my fridge (since it’s fermented, after all), but I only use them to cook with.

My rule on wine is its good until it tastes or smells bad. A month is a pretty long time, even for white, which lasts a lot longer in the fridge than red

2-3 days. If it’s up to a week old, it’s usually okay to cook with. More than that and it’ll start turning.
