The song I have my heart set on, and have since before we were engaged, is 5 minutes and 13 seconds long. It’s just so beautiful and describes our relationship so perfectly.
Also, how long was/is your first dance song?

We are at about 3:20. It is actually a pretty long time to just dance in front of people. But you’ve got a ton of time, have you thought about doing dance lessons or having your first dance choreographed (not crazy choreography, just so you look good)? It will make 5 minutes go better.

Our first dance is going to be Everything by LIfehouse, and it is on the 5 min + side. I thought it was a bit long, and tried looking at other places we could use it, like an aisle song, but FI is set on it being our first dance. So guests are going to have to be patient and wait it out 🙂 (I’m going to try and convince him we should do choreographed parts)
So, if you have your heart set on it, go for it, it’s the only first dance you’ll get, and in the grand scheme of life, it’s not really that long!

That’s what I was thinking, ninjadarling! We plan on having a big backyard-bbq type reception (as of right now at least, nothing is set in stone yet) that goes until late at night, so 5 minutes out of the entire night reeeeeally isn’t too big of a deal as far as I’m concerned! 🙂 Besides, it’s a celebration of our love. A little extra time for the bride and groom to be in the spotlight won’t hurt anyone! 😉

@monitajb- I hadn’t thought about dance lessons…it would probably be a good idea anyway because I have two left feet. I’m not sure what the protocal of first dances are, but maybe we could encourage everyone to join us half way through?

Ours is around 3 minutes. I’m so happy because I heard it feels like forever when you are up there!

Yikes! Thanks for posting this – I just looked it up. It’s 4:37 – WOW! We’ll have to pull the wedding party, parents and guests in cuz that’s a looong time! LOL

it’s a Sinatra song, and pretty short. Around 3 minutes I think, which is more than enough time!

mine is about 6 minutes long but incluces a lot of instrumental after the two verses of singing. we’re going to use an editing tool (you can get them for free online if you do a trial version, try “audacity” for example) to fade the song out after the main singing parts since it’s the lyrics that are so important to us anyway. we can do without the long guitar parts at the end, and that way, we won’t feel like we’re being stared at by everyone for so long! 🙂
