I spent a few hours at each store. I think that you probably won't have as many dresses to try on in the stores after the first few though since a lot of them have the same or similar selections.
I would say 1-2 hours. I spent 2 hours in the places where the consultant was super nice and kept thinking of dresses that would look good on me, and took picture, etc.
But MissAsB is right...after the first few you'll probably have an idea of what you're looking for and the dresses will be similar.
I found that I could only handle about 1 hour of trying on before I needed a break. So it worked out to be about 1.5 hours per store once you figured in the meeting the salesclerk, browsing around, etc...
I did a marathon weekend when my mom was here visiting and I fit in 5 appointments over 2 days. My mom & I were exhausted & overwhelmed after 5 shops, but I did find a dress. I think you could fit in 4 in one day if they're close together. Just bring snacks & water and have fun!
I would say about 1.5 hours, unless the first store you go to has a HUGE selection, because that's the one that's going to take you the longest, becuause you'll want to try on a lot of things you hadn't considered, just to see.
I spent atleast an hour + at each store. You may not NEED that long but it is nice to have...an such a fun experience, you may not want to rush and leave :)
I spent around an hour at each store...did three in a day with lunch after #2. We were all pretty tired by lunchtime, so you might want to plan a small break between 1 and 2.
I spent about 1.5 - 2 hours in each store.
David's Bridal was trying to rush me a little, but I was welcome to spend more time at the boutiques I visited.

I'm planning a dress-shopping excursion soon. My mom and friend are coming from out of town, so I want to get as many stores into one day as I can!! I've found dresses that I like online and looked up what stores carry them as a starting point, and I've found 4 or so stores that aren't too far from each other.
How long did you guys spend in each store? I want to make sure I can plan a doable shopping day, plus time to eat (I'm hypoglycemic), while making sure I hopefully see enough dresses to know what I want and not have to ask mom to make multiple 4-hour round trips. :)
