Haha- interestingly- my FI and I NEVER shared keys to eachothers old places. We moved in with eachother after a year and a half together 🙂

Mr TTR & I are Encores.  And we came into this relationship with a lot of history / baggage.

We took it very slow in the beginning, being friends long before we started dating.

When we did decide to make the move to being a couple, things happened pretty quickly… plus it was the Christmas Holidays… so we had time off from work, and found ourselves hanging out 24/7 continually for about 2 weeks.

After that things went back to somewhat normal for a few months (ok not quite, we were spending 3 or 4 nights a week together)

By April it became clear that there was no going back… only forward.

And I said it was becoming a tad annoying that whenver I came over I had to ring the bell… and wait for him to answer the door (lol, often with my hands laiden down with an overnight bag, groceries for Dinner, maybe some other little niceties… like flowers etc)

I expressed that sentiment once.

He went on his Golf Trip with “the Guys” over Easter … and when he came back he obviously missed me…

And seeing as I didn’t have a key to his place, I wasn’t in his house waiting for him (altho I wanted to be… it would have been so awesome to have greeted him with a nice meal etc)

Two days later he went to the Hardware Store, and presented me with a key to his home.  A nice gift / gesture, a sign of trust, in that I could come and go as I pleased.

BUT it was a long time (years) before we made moving in an official act.

Hm, I don’t know if he ever gave me a key to his place. Everytime I was there I was with him so I didn’t need one. My house was always unlocked because someone was always awake/home so he didn’t need one. We moved in together after 7 months so it wasn’t like it was a huge issue.

like a month after dating he gave me a key to his place – slipped it into my pocket when he kissed me goodnight as I was leaving. So cute 😀

Too long!  I finally got him to give me a key year…6? of our relationship.  We had plans to move in together, but still no key!!

Never. We didn’t exchange keys.  We moved in together right around a year of dating…  We never discussed keys either.  We would make plans for when we were home and, although i never remember this happening, we would have just sat in our car until the other arrived if they weren’t already there.

@Peachytalk:  My house was always our home base. We essentially moved in with each as soon as we met. It was within the first month. We were engaged after 3.

@Peachytalk:  I never had a key to his place. He didn’t get a key to my place until he moved in, thus making it our place (that was 7 months after we started dating). We also never stayed in each others apartments alone.

@Peachytalk:  I’m not sure we ever did. We left doors unlocked frequently for each other but we moved in together after 4 months so it wasn’t really necessary. I may have given him a spare key at some point when he regularly started staying over but I can’t remember.
