Hey new brides!
I got married in NYC on April 25. We mailed our marriage licence back the day after our wedding. It has been 30 days and we still have not received our marriage certifcate. My employer requires a copy of the marriage certificate within 30 days in order to add my husband to my health insurance and I’m concerned that we should have recevied it by now.
WHen did you get yours? Should I be worried about this? Do you know who I should contact to check on the status of the certificate?

I had mine in hand exactly 11 days after my Saturday wedding. If it had been more than two weeks, I would have called. You should call right away and explain that you needed it yesterday. You need to contact your city clerk’s office.

I would call the county clerk and check on it. I got married last Saturday and we had the license back on Friday. It shouldn’t take so long for them to record it.

I got married May 23rd and have not received mine back yet. I called because they sent me a reminder notice that made me nervous and the lady acted like it was waaayyy too early to be expecting it. I’d call, but if you live in a big city like I do and got married in late spring/early summer like I did, it may take some extra time.

Michigan might be different, but we were given 3 copies of our marriage license when we got married. We kept an official copy with a seal on it and then sent in 2 copies to be filed with the state and county. As far as I know, this is the only copy we will be receiving. So, we got ours on the day we got married.

We got married in North Carolina and pre-paid for the certificate when we got the license. We also hand-delivered the signed license to the Clerk’s office b/c we were staying in town for our honeymoon. They typed up the certificate on the spot, so it worked out quite nicely, but I know that’s not really the norm. Definitely call!
